Central venous catheter (CVC) placement is a challenging procedure with known iatrogenic risks. However, there are no residency program requirements to demonstrate baseline CVC procedural competency. Competency-based procedural education has been shown to decrease CVC-associated morbidity, but there has been limited literature about institution-wide efforts to ensure initial trainee competency for CVC placement.

Methods: Phase 2, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel five-arm, double-blind, multicenter study (NCT03827655) in 209 adults undergoing open or laparoscopic-assisted bowel surgery. Patients received intravenous placebo, felcisetrag 0.
Background: Vasoplegic syndrome (VS) is a common occurrence during heart transplantation (HT). It currently lacks a uniform definition between transplant centers, and its pathophysiology and treatment remain enigmatic. This systematic review summarizes the available published clinical data regarding VS during HT.

Strategies for one-lung ventilation include double-lumen endotracheal tubes or endobronchial blockers, but rarely both. Inability to provide lung isolation after double-lumen endotracheal tube placement requires troubleshooting and sometimes the use of extra equipment.

HSK3486 injectable emulsion (ciprofol) is a 2,6-disubstituted phenol derivative with fast onset and quick, stable recovery. Previous studies support HSK3486 as an effective, safe anesthetic with substantially less injection-site pain than propofol.

In this case report, we describe a patient with severe cardiopulmonary failure necessitating an Impella 5.

Recent studies of cluster of differentiation 38 (CD38) have identified its critical role in IRI. Our objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of CD38-mediated axis, pathways, and potential CD38 translational therapies for reducing inflammation associated with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) or thoracic transplantation and IRI.

Consequently, minimally invasive procedures have gained popularity, but there exists the potential for failure of therapy necessitating eventual surgical decompression.
Purpose: To evaluate the incidence and characteristics of patients who require surgical decompression following minimally invasive procedures to treat lumbar spinal stenosis.

Background: Injury to the esophagus has been reported in a high percentage of patients undergoing ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF).
Objectives: This study assessed the incidence of esophageal injury in patients undergoing ablation of AF with and without an esophageal deviating device.
Methods: This prospective, randomized, multicenter, double-blinded, controlled Food and Drug Administration investigational device exemption trial compared the incidence of ablation-related esophageal lesions, as assessed by endoscopy, in patients undergoing AF ablation assigned to a control group (luminal esophageal temperature [LET] monitoring alone) compared with patients randomized to a deviation group (esophagus deviation device + LET).
The EZ-Blocker is the newest generation of bronchial blocker and offers a potential alternative to left-sided double lumen tubes for lung isolation and one-lung ventilation during thoracic surgery. Databases were searched for randomized controlled trials comparing left-sided double lumen tube to the EZ-Blocker for one-lung ventilation during thoracic surgery. The time for placement, incidence of intraoperative displacement, and surgeons' rating of lung collapse quality were designated as coprimary outcomes.

Previous investigators have confirmed the association of stroke with postoperative mortality. However, limited data exist regarding the relationship between the timing of stroke and survival.
