Postnatal epithelium and mesenchyme stem/progenitor cells in bioengineered amelogenesis and dentinogenesis.

Rodent incisors provide a classic model for studying epithelial-mesenchymal interactions in development. However, postnatal stem/progenitor cells in rodent incisors have not been exploited for tooth regeneration. Here, we characterized postnatal rat incisor epithelium and mesenchyme stem/progenitor cells and found that they formed enamel- and dentin-like tissues in vivo.

Capecitabine, oxaliplatin and radiotherapy: a phase IB neoadjuvant study for esophageal cancer with gene expression analysis.

Purpose: To determine the maximal tolerated dose of capecitabine with oxaliplatin + radiotherapy in a phase I study of localized esophageal cancer.

Patients And Methods: Oxaliplatin (85 mg/m(2)) administered on days 1, 15, and 29. Capecitabine administered twice daily 5 days weekly; dose levels (DL) were 1, 1000; 2, 1250; and 3, 1500 mg/m(2) with 50.

Malignant gastroparesis: pathogenesis and management of an underrecognized disorder.

Gastroparesis is a disorder of the stomach caused by delayed gastric emptying in the absence of mechanical obstruction. Symptoms of gastroparesis include nausea, vomiting, early satiety, bloating, and abdominal discomfort. Gastroparesis has been described as a complication of several malignancies, including gastric, pancreatic, gallbladder, esophageal, and lung cancers, as well as leiomyosarcoma.

Palliation of malignant dysphagia in esophageal cancer: a literature-based review.

Esophageal cancer is a lethal malignancy and adenocarcinoma of the esophagus is increasing in incidence. Most patients present with locally advanced, unresectable or metastatic disease. The 5-year survival rate of patients with esophageal cancer is < 20%.
