Background: Higher-protein meals (>25 g protein/meal) have been associated with enhanced satiety but the role of amino acids is unclear. Leucine has been proposed to stimulate satiety in rodents but has not been assessed in humans.

Objective: We assessed the acute effects of lower-protein nutrition bars, enhanced with a leucine peptide (LP), on postprandial appetite sensations in combination with plasma leucine and peptide YY (PYY) in healthy women.

Article Synopsis
  • Specific foods and beverages rich in flavonoids, especially citrus flavanones, may improve vascular function, although research on their effects after meals is limited.
  • A study was conducted with 28 healthy middle-aged men to examine how different amounts of flavanones from orange juice and whole oranges impacted vascular function after a high-fat meal over 7 hours.
  • All tested flavanone forms helped reduce temporary declines in endothelial function after meals, without clear differences based on dosage, and these effects correlated with increased levels of flavonoid metabolites and nitric oxide in the bloodstream.
