Bladder cancer is a prevalent urinary system malignancy and urinary cytology is widely used for its screening and follow-up. A novel diagnostic tool called Bladder Epicheck (BE) is increasingly being used for monitoring the recurrence of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Post-operative acute kidney injury (PO-AKI) is a serious complication that may occur after major abdominal surgery. The administration of intravenous perioperative amino acids (AAs) has been proven to increase kidney function and has some beneficial effects to prevent PO-AKI. The aim of this study was to establish if the perioperative infusion of AAs may reduce the incidence of PO-AKI in patients undergoing major urological minimally invasive surgery.

Perioperative Renal Ultrasonography of Arterio-to-Venous Coupling Predicts Postoperative Complications after Major Laparoscopic Urologic Surgery.

Point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) with concomitant venous and arterial Doppler assessment enables clinicians to assess organ-specific blood supply. To date, no studies have investigated the usefulness of including a comprehensive perioperative POCUS assessment of patients undergoing major laparoscopic surgery. Capabilities of Grazing Incidence X-ray Diffraction in the Investigation of Amorphous Mixed Oxides with Variable Composition.

X-ray Diffraction has been fully exploited as a probe to investigate crystalline materials. However, very little research has been carried out to unveil its potentialities towards amorphous materials. In this work, we demonstrated the capabilities of Grazing Incidence X-ray Diffraction (GIXRD) as a simple and fast tool to obtain quantitative information about the composition of amorphous mixed oxides.

Morphology, Electrical and Optical Properties of Cu Nanostructures Embedded in AZO: A Comparison between Dry and Wet Methods.

Herein, Cu nanostructures are obtained by solid-state dewetting of 9 nm copper layer (dry) or by ablating copper target, using a nanosecond pulsed laser at 1064 nm, in acetone and isopropyl alcohol (wet). The Cu nanostructures are embedded in aluminum-doped zinc oxide layer. Then, the electrical, optical, and morphological properties of the two kinds of systems, as a function of their synthesis parameters, are investigated.

Background: Identification of lung parenchyma on computer tomographic (CT) scans in the research setting is done semi-automatically and requires cumbersome manual correction. This is especially true in pathological conditions, hindering the clinical application of aeration compartment (AC) analysis. Deep learning based algorithms have lately been shown to be reliable and time-efficient in segmenting pathologic lungs.

Extension of Collagen Deposition in COVID-19 Post Mortem Lung Samples and Computed Tomography Analysis Findings.

Lung fibrosis has specific computed tomography (CT) findings and represents a common finding in advanced COVID-19 pneumonia whose reversibility has been poorly investigated. The aim of this study was to quantify the extension of collagen deposition and aeration in postmortem cryobiopsies of critically ill COVID-19 patients and to describe the correlations with qualitative and quantitative analyses of lung CT. Postmortem transbronchial cryobiopsy samples were obtained, formalin fixed, paraffin embedded and stained with Sirius red to quantify collagen deposition, defining fibrotic samples as those with collagen deposition above 10%.

Characteristics of current heart failure patients admitted to internal medicine vs. cardiology hospital units: the VASCO study.

The majority of patients hospitalized for heart failure (HF) are admitted to internal medicine (IM) rather than to cardiology (CA) units, but to date few studies have analyzed the characteristics of these two populations. In this snapshot survey, we compared consecutive patients admitted for HF in six IM units vs. one non-intensive CA unit.

Studies on the Determination of Antioxidant Activity and Phenolic Content of Plant Products in India (2000-2017).

Ayurveda, the traditional Indian therapeutic system, involves herbs and spices as drug ingredients and a kind of food intake regulation. The health and curative aspects of plant products are often ascribed to their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities (AA). However, it seems somewhat possible to correlate the AA of herbal extracts or plant isolates with their phenolic contents (PC).

Antimicrobial Substances for Food Packaging Products: The Current Situation.

Antimicrobial substances are widely used in many anthropic activities, including sanitary and military services for the human population. These compounds are also known to be used in food production, agricultural activities, and partially correlated industrial sectors. Background: Some studies have already investigated about the short-term favorable metabolic effects of breastfeeding in women with previous gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Aim: The aim of our study is to confirm whether the positive effects reported are maintained in the larger cohorts of patients with mild form of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) because recently diagnosed according to IADPSG criteria.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study includes 97 evaluable consecutive women with prior GDM who have the follow-up oral glucose tolerance test at least 3 months after delivery.

Isolation of Yersinia enterocolitica biotype 1 A from raw meat products.

A survey has been carried out for the presence of Yersinia enterocolitioca in raw meat products. One hundred and twenty raw beef, chicken and ham samples were assayed for the presence of Yersinia enterocolitica by the 4 degrees C enrichment method after 2 weeks of incubation using phosphate buffered saline. Yersinia enterocolitica biotype 1 A non agglutinable (NAG) was isolated from a sample of beef and identified by Api 20 E System and additional biochemical tests, Lipase, beta-D-Glucosidase and Pyrazinamidase.

Treatment of an extensive superficial basal cell carcinoma of the face with imiquimod 5% cream.

The efficacy and safety of imiquimod, an immune-response modifier approved for the treatment of anogenital warts that has antiviral and antitumor activity, in the management of an extensive superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) of the face as an alternative to surgical treatment was evaluated in a 75-year-old male with a 4-year history of a progressively enlarging lesion located on the right temporal region. Imiquimod 5% cream was applied daily until clinical resolution. Histopathological confirmation of clinical diagnosis and of tumor clearance were performed before starting treatment and at the end of treatment, respectively.
