Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in plants, focusing on its poorly understood molecular mechanisms and the role of lipid metabolites in plant defense against pathogens.* -
  • Researchers employed advanced metabolomics techniques, revealing that various lipids, including phosphatidic acid and phosphatidylcholine, are involved in both basal resistance and SAR responses.* -
  • The results indicate specific lipid accumulation patterns in local and systemic leaves during pathogen infections, which could inform future research on enhancing SAR in plants.*

Melatonin is an important bioactive molecule in plants. Two synthetases, N-acetylserotonin methyltransferase (ASMT) and serotonin N-acetyltransferase (SNAT) are involved in the final two steps of melatonin synthesis. Melatonin participates in responses to a variety of biotic and abiotic stresses in plants, but few studies have addressed the roles of endogenous melatonin in pathogen resistance.
