Cohort profile: A prospective cohort study on newlywed couples in rural and poor urban Bangladesh.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) aim to enhance quality of life through safe sexual experiences, reproductive autonomy, and protection against gender-based violence. However, existing SRHR research and interventions in low- and middle-income countries like Bangladesh predominantly focus on women, often understating men and neglecting the nuanced contextual issues faced by married couples. This study contributes to filling this gap by examining SRHR dynamics among newlyweds in rural and poor urban areas of Bangladesh, especially focusing on marital satisfaction, fertility preferences, and post-marriage adaptation mechanisms.

Perceived expressed emotion in individuals with a first episode of psychosis from a south Asian background.

Aim: To explore perceived expressed emotion in the south Asian context for individuals with a first episode of psychosis (FEP).

Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 service users experiencing a FEP to understand their experience of expressed emotion (EE) from their caregivers. Interviews were analysed using inductive thematic analysis.

Clinical profile and serological correlation with haemolysis in DAT-positive autoimmune haemolytic anaemia patients in Bangladesh.

Discerning the type of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) is crucial for transfusion support and initiation of treatment. This study aimed to establish the clinical profile and serological character of red cell autoantibodies and to investigate the relationship with haemolysis in AIHA patients who were direct antiglobulin test (DAT)-positive. A total of 59 DAT-positive AIHA patients were included in this study.

Response to apheretic platelet transfusion in children of acute lymphoblastic leukemia receiving induction chemotherapy: a cross-sectional study from Bangladesh.

Background: Disease and therapy-related hypoproliferative thrombocytopenia is a significant barrier to managing acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) patients. To reduce the risk of haemorrhage, apheretic platelet transfusion is a modern, effective, and expensive option. Since most ALL patients in Bangladesh have financial constraints, this study can shed light on the magnitude of benefit regarding the effectiveness of apheretic platelet prophylactically and therapeutically in children of ALL receiving induction chemotherapy.

Screening out molecular pathways and prognostic biomarkers of ultraviolet-mediated melanoma through computational techniques.

Purpose: Ultraviolet radiation causes skin cancer, but the exact mechanism by which it occurs and the most effective methods of intervention to prevent it are yet unknown. For this purpose, our study will use bioinformatics and systems biology approaches to discover potential biomarkers of skin cancer for early diagnosis and prevention of disease with applicable clinical treatments.

A SARS-CoV-2 NSP7 homolog of a Treg epitope suppresses CD4+ and CD8+ T cell memory responses.

Pathogens escape host defenses by T-cell epitope mutation or deletion (immune escape) and by simulating the appearance of human T cell epitopes (immune camouflage). We identified a highly conserved, human-like T cell epitope in non-structural protein 7 (NSP7) of SARS-CoV-2, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) hetero-tetramer complex. Remarkably, this T cell epitope has significant homology to a T regulatory cell epitope (Tregitope) previously identified in the Fc region of human immunoglobulin G (IgG) (Tregitope 289).

The use of artificial intelligence and deep learning reconstruction in urological computed tomography: Dose reduction at ghost level.

Objective: The objective of the study is to demonstrate that with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in computed tomography (CT), radiation doses of CT kidney-ureter-bladder (KUB) and CT urogram (CTU) can be reduced to less than that of X-ray KUB and CT KUB, respectively, while maintaining the good image quality.

Materials And Methods: We reviewed all CT KUBs ( = 121) performed in September 2019 and all CTUs ( = 74) performed in December 2019 at our institution. The dose length product (DLP) of all CT KUBs and each individual phase of CTU were recorded.

Feasibility and clinical utility of local rapid Nanopore influenza A virus whole genome sequencing for integrated outbreak management, genotypic resistance detection and timely surveillance.

Rapid respiratory viral whole genome sequencing (WGS) in a clinical setting can inform real-time outbreak and patient treatment decisions, but the feasibility and clinical utility of influenza A virus (IAV) WGS using Nanopore technology has not been demonstrated. A 24 h turnaround Nanopore IAV WGS protocol was performed on 128 reverse transcriptase PCR IAV-positive nasopharyngeal samples taken over seven weeks of the 2022-2023 winter influenza season, including 25 from patients with nosocomial IAV infections and 102 from patients attending the Emergency Department. WGS results were reviewed collectively alongside clinical details for interpretation and reported to clinical teams.

Efficient clinical-grade γ-retroviral vector purification by high-speed centrifugation for CAR T cell manufacturing.

γ-Retroviral vectors (γ-RV) are powerful tools for gene therapy applications. Current clinical vectors are produced from stable producer cell lines which require minimal further downstream processing, while purification schemes for γ-RV produced by transient transfection have not been thoroughly investigated. We aimed to develop a method to purify transiently produced γ-RV for early clinical studies.

Nosocomial acquisition of influenza is associated with significant morbidity and mortality: Results of a prospective observational study.

Background: Nosocomial acquisition of influenza is known to occur but the risk after exposure to a known case and the outcomes after acquisition are poorly defined.

Methods: Prospective observational study of patients exposed to influenza from another patient in a multi-site healthcare organisation, with follow-up of 7 days or until discharge, and PCR-confirmation of symptomatic disease. Multivariable analysis was used to investigate association of influenza acquisition with high dependency unit/intensive care unit (HDU/ITU) admission and in-hospital mortality.
