Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) presents significant clinical challenges, highlighting the importance of understanding its molecular mechanisms. While store-operated Ca entry (SOCE) is known to play an essential role in tumorigenesis and metastasis, its specific implications across various RCC subtypes remain underexplored. This study analyzed SOCE-related mRNA profiles from the KIRC and KIRP projects in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, focusing on differential gene expression and overall survival outcomes.

  • The study looked at fetuses with a condition called isolated mega cisterna magna, which is a part of the brain that is larger than normal but doesn’t have other issues.
  • It involved 71 cases from 18 hospitals and found that about 68% of these cases improved on their own before birth.
  • Most babies did well after birth, but some had other brain problems, especially boys who had bigger brain sizes compared to girls.

  • The study aimed to establish normal reference ranges for the fetal right ventricular modified myocardial performance index (RV Mod-MPI) using an automated system to measure heart function in normal and congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) fetuses.
  • It found that the automated measurements showed significantly better reproducibility compared to manual methods, with a high intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).
  • Additionally, the study revealed that RV Mod-MPI values increased with gestational age, but there was no significant difference between fetuses with CDH and normal fetuses.

: Repetitive ankle sprains lead to mechanical instability of the ankle. Patients with chronic ankle instability may experience decreased muscle strength and limited postural control. This study investigated the effects of a hip-strengthening exercise program on muscle strength, balance, and function in patients with chronic ankle instability.

Phenol red is commonly used in cell culture media, but can be detrimental to bioanalysis of samples as it may impact instrument reliability. Many researchers do their final stage of culture in 'phenol red free' media, but in collaborative work this is not always feasible. A comparison was made between typical extraction methods to reduce phenol red matrix interferences, including organic solvent precipitation and solid phase extraction.

Non-specific chronic wrist pain is wrist pain that occurs without a specific cause, such as trauma, and may limit the range of motion of the joints of the wrist and hand, affecting muscle strength, grip strength, and function. This study aimed to determine the effects of grip-strengthening exercises combined with wrist stability training on pain and function in patients with non-specific chronic wrist pain. The subjects of the study were 31 patients with wrist pain.

Ubiquitination is an essential post-translational modification mechanism involving the ubiquitin protein's bonding to a substrate protein. It is crucial in a variety of physiological activities including cell survival and differentiation, and innate and adaptive immunity. Any alteration in the ubiquitin system leads to the development of various human diseases.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of upper limb control exercises on upper limb function, respiration, balance, and activities of daily living in patients with stroke. The 28 patients who met the selection criteria were randomly assigned to two groups of 14 patients each. Subsequently, upper limb control exercises using real-time feedback were applied.

: The World Health Organization reports that back pain is a major cause of disorder worldwide. It is the most common musculoskeletal disorder with limited pain, muscle tension, and stiffness, and 70-80% of all individuals experience it once in their lifetime, with higher prevalence in women than in men. This study aimed to investigate the effects of gluteal muscle strengthening exercise- based core stabilization training (GSE-based CST) on pain, function, fear-avoidance patterns, and quality of life in patients with chronic back pain.

Background/aim: NUAK family kinase 2 (NUAK2) is a promising target for cancer therapeutics due to its reported role in protein phosphorylation, a critical process in cancer cell survival, proliferation, invasion, and senescence. This study aimed to identify novel inhibitors that disrupt NUAK2 activity. We have already identified two KRICT Hippo kinase inhibitor (KHKI) compounds, such as KHKI-01128 and KHKI-01215.

Urban air pollution, a significant environmental hazard, is linked to adverse health outcomes and increased mortality across various diseases. This study investigates the neurotoxic effects of particulate matter (PM), specifically PM2.5 and PM10, by examining their role in inducing oxidative stress and subsequent neuronal cell death.

Background/objectives: Although iodine is essential for thyroid hormone production and controls many metabolic processes, there are few reports on the iodine intake of the population because of the scarcity of information on the iodine content in food. This study estimated the iodine intake of Koreans from brown seaweed, the major source of iodine in nature.

Subjects/methods: The dietary intake data from the recent Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016-2021) and the iodine content in brown seaweed were used for the estimation.

Stroke often results in sensory deficits, muscular weakness, and diminished postural control, thereby restricting mobility and functional capabilities. It is important to promote neuroplasticity by implementing task-oriented exercises that induce changes in patients. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of rehabilitation robot training on physical function, functional recovery, and activities of daily living (ADLs) in patients with subacute stroke.

Consecutive case series. To propose a screw placement method in patients with extremely small lumbar pedicles (ESLPs) (<2 mm) to maintain screw density and correction power, without relying on the O-arm navigation system. In scoliosis surgery, ESLPs can hinder probe passage, resulting in exclusion or substitution of the pedicle screws with a hook.

Purpose: The S2AI screw technique has several advantages over the conventional iliac screw fixation technique. However, connecting the S2AI screw head to the main rod is difficult due to its medial entry point. We introduce a new technique for connecting the S2AI screw head to a satellite rod and compare it with the conventional method of connecting the S2AI screw to the main rod.

  • The study investigates the buildup of misfolded proteins in neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) and aims to find common molecular mechanisms across these conditions using a model called MLnet.
  • By applying this model to diseases like Alzheimer's and Huntington's, researchers identified several insulin pathway proteins, such as Akt1, as common modifiers.
  • Validation in lab tests showed that activating Akt1 improved cell viability in NDs and enhanced memory and reduced anxiety in mouse models of Alzheimer's, suggesting MLnet is a useful tool for discovering shared therapeutic targets across different diseases.
