Article Synopsis
  • Recent research has uncovered many monogenic disorders that can appear similar to cerebral palsy in infants, complicating diagnosis.
  • While commercial multigene CP panels exist, they're often less effective than exome sequencing due to the range of conditions that can mimic CP.
  • An example case involved a patient with spastic hemiplegia, where exome sequencing finally revealed TTC19-related mitochondrial complex III deficiency, an extremely rare disorder affecting energy metabolism and leading to specific neurological symptoms.

Objectives: To identify, describe and critique state and local policies related to child passenger safety in for-hire motor vehicles including ridesharing and taxis.

Methods: We used standard legal research methods to collect policies governing the use of child restraint systems (CRS) in rideshare and taxi vehicles for all 50 states and the 50 largest cities in the USA. We abstracted the collected policies to determine whether the policy applies to specific vehicles, requires specific safety restraints in those vehicles, lists specific requirements for use of those safety restraints, seeks to enhance compliance and punishes noncompliance.

Pediatric spasticity management requires special consideration because of continuous growth and underlying medical complications due to upper motor neuron disease. Early intervention, regular follow-up, and management of spasticity are critical to improve function and prevent musculoskeletal complications, functional deterioration, and the development of pain. Thorough history taking along with comprehensive medical evaluation and physical examination by practitioners with knowledge about spasticity are important clues for spasticity management in addition to thorough history taking and review of current medications.
