The recombinant human growth hormone (GH) has been used for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and diverse short stature state, and its physiological and therapeutic effects are well documented. However, since the effect of GH treatment on metabolic disorders has not been well characterized, we injected GH to Western diet-fed low-density lipoprotein receptor-deficient ( ) mice to understand the exact effect of GH on metabolic diseases including atherosclerosis, hepatic steatosis, and obesity. Exogenous GH treatment increased plasma IGF-1 concentration and decreased body weight without affecting serum lipid profiles.

Two novel, fully human antibodies, H6 and 7H, against human VCAM-1 (hVCAM-1) were developed and tested to validate the hypothesis that blocking VCAM-1 ameliorates atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E-deficient (ApoE(-/-)) mice.
Methods And Results: Treatment with H6 or 7H effectively inhibited VCAM-1 adhesion to inflammatory cells, and reduced RhoA activation and the production of reactive oxygen species in human umbilical cord vascular endothelial cells.
Background: Side population (SP) cells are characterized by the ability to exclude Hoechst 33342 dye due to high expression of the ATP-binding cassette transporter. This ability is associated with drug-resistant characteristics of cancer stem cells.
Methods: We analyzed SP cells from human B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cell lines and primary cells derived from patients and compared them with non-SP (NSP) cells.
Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The dried root of Sophora flavescens Aiton (Sophorae radix, SR) has long been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of fever and swelling in eastern countries.
Materials And Methods: The present study investigated the anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects of SR using 1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB)-induced contact dermatitis mouse model and in vitro using RBL-2H3 cells.
Results: In mice, the topical application of 10 mg/mL of SR effectively inhibited enlargement of ear thickness and weight induced by repeated painting with DNFB.
