Background: Hemophilia-associated bleeding and resultant joint pain and mobility restrictions can predispose patients to poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Therefore, efficacy of a treatment needs to address more than just annualized bleed rates.

Objectives: Describe the evolution of HRQoL, pain, and activity in patients with hemophilia A, treated with efmoroctocog alfa prophylaxis.

Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a prevalent cause of permanent vision loss and blindness in the elderly worldwide, with a significant impact on patients' daily lives. However, burdens related to nAMD from the patients' perspective have not been well documented. Here we developed a new questionnaire after eliciting nAMD patients' daily challenges followed by a pilot survey.

Article Synopsis
  • * It identified several risk factors for GAD, including being female, having a family history of psychiatric issues, a personal history of suicide attempts, and experiencing depressive symptoms.
  • * The results highlight that GAD patients reported significant functional impairments in work, social life, and family life, suggesting a need for better recognition and timely referrals for mental health support in primary care settings.

This systematic literature review aimed to assess the efficacy and tolerability of agomelatine versus approved medications for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adult patients. We selected randomized controlled trials on various medications used to treat GAD in adult patients. An existing systematic literature review (Kong et al.

Introduction: To identify drivers of preference for growth hormone deficiency (GHD) treatment in French children, and their caregivers, and to quantify the relative importance of different aspects of treatment modalities using a discrete choice experiment (DCE).

Materials And Methods: Attributes characterizing GHD treatment modalities were identified through a literature review, qualitative interviews and focus groups with children, adolescents, and caregivers. A DCE questionnaire of 12 choice tasks was administered online to four groups of participants: autonomous adolescents (12 to 18 years), non-autonomous adolescent / caregiver dyads, caregivers of non-autonomous children (3 to 11 years) and autonomous children / caregiver dyads.

In this paper, we considered one of the problems that arise during drilling automation, namely the automation of lithology identification from drill cuttings images. Usually, this work is performed by experienced geologists, but this is a tedious and subjective process. Drill cuttings are the cheapest source of rock formation samples; therefore, reliable lithology prediction can greatly reduce the cost of analysis during drilling.

The whitefly, Bemisia tabaci is a hemipteran pest of vegetable crops vectoring a broad category of viruses. Currently, this insect pest showed a high adaptability and resistance to almost all the chemical compounds commonly used for its control. In many cases, transposable elements (TEs) contributed to the evolution of host genomic plasticity.

A novel xylanase gene xynBCA, encoding a polypeptide of 439 residues (XynBCA), was cloned from Caldicoprobacter algeriensis genome and recombinantly expressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3). The amino acid sequence analysis showed that XynBCA belongs to the glycoside hydrolase family 10. The purified recombinant enzyme has a monomeric structure of 52 kDa.

A novel glucose isomerase gene from the thermophilic Caldicoprobacter algeriensis, encoding a polypeptide of 438 residues, was identified, cloned and successfully expressed in E. coli. The purified enzyme (GICA) was a homotetramer of about 200 kDa displaying the highest activity at pH 7.

A synthetic cDNA-AmyA gene was cloned and successfully expressed in Pichia pastoris as a His-tagged enzyme under the methanol inducible AOX1 promoter. High level of extracellular amylase production of 72 U/mL was obtained after a 72 h induction by methanol. As expected, the recombinant strain produced only the AmyA isoform since the host is a protease deficient strain.

Enzymatic thornback ray () muscle hydrolysates have been shown to have antioxidant and antihypertensive activities . The Neutrase hydrolysate exhibited the highest activities, so it was investigated along with the undigested muscle to test their hypolipidemic, antioxidative and fertility effects in rats fed with a high-cholesterol diet (HCD). Animals were allocated into four groups of 5 rats each: a normal diet group (control), a HCD group, and two groups of HCD with a daily dose of undigested muscle (Und) or the hydrolysate (MH) at 0.

Dromedaries are capable of digesting plant cell wall with high content of lignocellulose of poor digestibility. Consequently, their intestinal microbiota can be a source of novel carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes). To the best of our knowledge, no data are available describing the biochemical analysis of enzymes in dromedary intestinal microbiota.

Genomic variation among species is commonly driven by transposable element (TE) invasion; thus, the pattern of TEs in a genome allows drawing an evolutionary history of the studied species. This paper reports in vitro and in silico detection and characterization of irritans mariner-like elements (MLEs) in the genome and transcriptome of Bactrocera oleae (Rossi) (Diptera: Tephritidae). Eleven irritans MLE sequences have been isolated in vitro using terminal inverted repeats (TIRs) as primers, and 215 have been extracted in silico from the sequenced genome of B.

Mariner-like elements (MLEs) are Class II transposons present in all eukaryotic genomes in which MLEs have been searched for. This article reports the detection of MLEs in seven of the main fruit tree aphid species out of eight species studied. Deleted MLE sequences of 916-919 bp were characterized, using the terminal-inverted repeats (TIRs) of mariner elements belonging to the mauritiana Subfamily as primers.

Three simple mutants, S80T, S146T, and S149T, and a double mutant, S80T-S149T, were constructed and expressed in Escherichia coli to replace Serine on the surface of the Trichoderma reesei xylanase protein with Threonine residues. While the Wild-type (WT) xylanase showed a half-life time (t1/2) of 20 min at 55 °C, the double mutant was more thermostable exhibiting a t1/2 value of 37 min, followed by the S80T and S149T mutants whose t1/2 values were 25 and 23 min, respectively. At 55 °C, the S146T mutant showed a decrease in thermostability with a t1/2 value of 3 min.

An obligatory anaerobic, moderately halophilic bacterium, designated strain CEJFG43(T), was isolated from a sample of sediment collected below the salt crust on the hypersaline El Jerid lake, in southern Tunisia. The cells of this novel strain were Gram-staining-negative, non-sporulating, motile, short rods. They grew in media with 6-30% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 15%), at 20-60 °C (optimum 45 °C) and at pH 5.

Pullulanase type I of Geobacillus thermoleovorans US105 strain (PUL US105) was produced and secreted efficiently in the E. coli periplasmic or extracellular fraction using two different signal peptides. Hence, the open reading frame was connected downstream of the lipase A signal peptide of Bacillus subtilis strain leading to an efficient secretion of an active form enzyme on the periplasmic fraction.

A gene encoding maltogenic amylase from acidic Bacillus sp. US149 (maUS149) was cloned, sequenced and over-expressed in Escherichia coli. The nucleotide sequence analysis revealed an open reading frame (ORF) of 1749 bp encoding a protein of 582 residues.

Objective: To report a case of spontaneous gluteus medius tear repaired surgically in a 42-year-old woman patient without any other antecedent other than diabetes. PATIENT AND METHODS-RESULTS: Trochanteric pain evolving for 7 months led to scintigraphy objectifying a hyperfixation of the trochanter and ultrasonography showing an inflammatory gluteus medius tendon. These examinations were supplemented by magnetic resonance imaging and tomodensitometry visualising the tendon rupture but no marked fat degeneration of the muscle despite atrophy of this one.
