Nevertheless, there are significant participation restrictions in patients with axSpA in Germany.
Objective: Investigation of functional deficits, participation restrictions and utilization of PTM, NPTM, RS and PSG membership in patients with axSpA.
Introduction: Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that typically affects people in their second and third decades of life, which are important years for establishing a professional career. We aim to study outcomes of work participation (WP) and their associations with demographic and clinical confounders, in addition to prevalence of negative workplace experiences in axSpA.
Methods: In total, 770 patients with axSpA participated in the multicentre, observational ATTENTUS-axSpA survey in Germany.
Objective: To determine the non-inferiority of nurse-led care (NLC) in patients with anticitrullinated protein antibody (ACPA)-positive and/or rheumatoid factor (RF)-positive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with active disease who are starting disease-modifying antirheumatic drug therapy, following treat-to-target (T2T) recommendations.
Methods: A multicentre, pragmatic randomised controlled trial was conducted to assess clinical effectiveness, anxiety, depression and patient satisfaction following a non-inferiority design. The participants were 224 adults with ACPA/RF-positive RA who were randomly assigned to either NLC or rheumatologist-led care (RLC).

Corresponding models located at Altoetting·Burghausen, Bad Pyrmont, Berlin Buch, Duesseldorf, Heidelberg, Herne, Mannheim as well as supraregional/multicenter initiatives Rheuma Rapid, RhePort and Rheuma-VOR are presented in this overview along with the respective characteristics, potential advantages and disadvantages, but also first evaluation results of several models. The aim of this publication is to promote early detection of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases as one of the most important challenges in current rheumatology by encouraging further rheumatologic centers and practices to launch their own early recognition/screening consultation model on the basis of aspects presented herein.

The present multicenter study, the International Spondyloarthritis Autoantibody (InterSpA) trial, was undertaken to compare the sensitivity and specificity of anti-CD74 and HLA-B27 in identifying patients with nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA).
Methods: Patients ages 18-45 years with inflammatory back pain of ≤2 years' duration and a clinical suspicion of axSpA were recruited.
Objective: The aim of this study is to analyse the influence of LILRA3 and the genetic leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor 3 (LILRA3) deletion on transmission and clinical course of HIV infection.
Design: Case and control study.
Methods: LILRA3 genotypes were determined by PCR.
Immune senescence as well as disturbed CD8 T cell differentiation are a hallmark of chronic HIV infection. Here, we investigated to what extent immune senescence is reversible after initiation of anti-retroviral treatment (ART). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from a cohort of HIV patients with different disease courses, including untreated viral controllers (n = 10), viral non-controllers (n = 16) and patients on ART (n = 20), were analysed and compared to uninfected controls (n = 25) by flow cytometry on bulk and HIV-specific major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I tetramer CD8 T cells for expression of the memory markers CCR7 and CD45RO, as well as the senescence marker CD57 and the differentiation and survival marker CD127.

The contribution of innate immunity during HIV-HCV co-infection has been a relatively under-investigated area. Natural killer (NK) cells are pivotal sentinels of innate immunity against viruses and tumour cells.

HIV long-term nonprogressors (LTNPs) maintaining high CD4(+) T-cell counts without antiretroviral therapy (ART) are divided into elite controllers (ECs) with undetectable and viremic controllers (VCs) with low viral loads. Little is known about the long-term changes of T-cell subsets and inflammation patterns in ECs versus VCs. The aim of the study was to explore the long-term evolution of CD4(+) T-cell levels in LTNPs and to analyze cytokine profiles in ECs versus VCs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFNatural killer (NK) cells are innate immune effectors that provide first line of defence against viruses. Human NK cells are heterogeneous in nature, and their functions rely on a dynamic balance between germ-line-encoded activating and inhibitory receptors. HIV-1 infection results in altered NK cell receptor repertoire and impaired effector functions including the ability to lyse virus-infected cells and secretion of antiviral cytokine IFN-γ.

T-cells were described frequently as one of the major driving forces in SpA, therefore we tried to look for T-cell aberrancies in our HIV-positive patients with SpA.
Methods: A total of 1098 files for HIV-positive patients who attended the HIV out-patient clinic of the Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at the Medical University Hanover for at least one visit between January 2004 and December 2010 were screened for the presence of a diagnosis of SpA.
Unlabelled: Natural killer (NK) cells are effector and regulatory innate immune cells and play a critical role in the first line of defense against various viral infections. Although previous reports have indicated the vital contributions of NK cells to HIV-1 immune control, nongenetic NK cell parameters directly associated with slower disease progression have not been defined yet. In a longitudinal, retrospective study of 117 untreated HIV-infected subjects, we show that higher frequencies as well as the absolute numbers of CD8(+) CD3(-) lymphocytes are linked to delayed HIV-1 disease progression.

We demonstrate that in humans FcγRIII (CD16)-dependent ADCC by NK cells is considerably enhanced by monocytes, and that this effect is regulated by FcγRII (CD32) crosslinking in healthy individuals. It is known that during HIV-1 infection, NK cells are known to express low levels of CD16 and exhibit reduced ADCC.

Flow cytometry is a technology that offers many advantages over T-cell receptor excision circles (TRECs) quantification to determine the RTE subset in blood. However, the gating strategies for identifying RTEs by flow cytometry have not been evaluated and compared in much detail.

We performed FACS analysis of CD4(+) CD31(+) naïve T cells from PBMCs in a cross-sectional age-matched cohort, including 25 healthy controls (HC), 18 untreated HIV-1 infected viremic progressors (VP), 10 untreated HIV-1 infected viral controllers (VC), and 24 HIV-1 infected immune responders (IR) following ART. Our data reveal that 37.

Materials And Methods: The German and Austrian AIDS societies developed these guidelines between March 2010 and November 2011. A structured Medline research was performed for 12 diseases, namely Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome, Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia, cerebral toxoplasmosis, cytomegalovirus manifestations, candidiasis, herpes simplex virus infections, varizella zoster virus infections, progressive multifocal leucencephalopathy, cryptosporidiosis, cryptococcosis, nontuberculosis mycobacteria infections and tuberculosis.
Objective: According to the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) guidelines for response-guided therapy (RGT) of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in HIV-positive patients, HCV-genotype (GT) and rapid virologic response (RVR) exclusively determine the duration of antiviral therapy with pegylated interferon and ribavirin (PEGIFN+RBV). The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of interleukin 28B rs12979860 single nucleotide polymorphism (IL28B) and liver fibrosis stage on RGT in HIV/HCV-coinfected patients.
Design: Four hundred and thirty HIV/HCV-coinfected patients treated with PEGIFN+RBV were included in this multinational, retrospective analysis.
