This manuscript illuminates the need for childcare support for trainees and faculty in the field of radiology, highlighting the essential need for access, affordability, and high-quality childcare services. For over four decades, women radiologists have voiced the challenges of meeting both childcare and professional responsibilities. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted systemic inadequacies in the childcare infrastructure, exacerbating the challenges of this long-standing balancing act.

Impact of HIV infection on cervical intraepithelial neoplasia detection in pregnant and non-pregnant women in Germany: a cross-sectional study.

Purpose: Women living with HIV (WLWH) are frequently affected by cervical dysplasia caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and invasive cervical cancer (CxCa). CxCa screening programs can include colposcopy, cytology, and HPV testing. These methods, however, have limitations in effectively stratifying cervical dysplasia.

CDK6-mediated endothelial cell cycle acceleration drives arteriovenous malformations in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia.

Increased endothelial cell proliferation is a hallmark of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). Here, we report a cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (CDK6)-driven mechanism of cell cycle deregulation involved in endothelial cell proliferation and HHT pathology. Specifically, endothelial cells from the livers of HHT mice bypassed the G1/S checkpoint and progressed through the cell cycle at an accelerated pace.

Efficacy and safety of 2-drug regime dolutegravir/lamivudine in pregnancy and breastfeeding - clinical implications and perspectives.

Objectives: To assess the efficacy and safety of a two-drug regimen (2DR) with dolutegravir (DTG) and lamivudine (3TC) in maintaining viral suppression during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and to evaluate its potential as an alternative to the recommended three-drug regimen (3DR) in preventing mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV.

Methods: We present a case of a 34-year-old pregnant woman who, after discontinuing 3DR due to side effects and poor adherence, was switched to DTG/3TC at gestational week 23. Maternal viral load (VL) and infant HIV status were monitored throughout pregnancy and a ten-month breastfeeding period.

Brain dysfunction defined as is one of the main diagnostic criteria for ALF.

A toolbox of strategies to improve test-taking skills: a comparison of student perceptions.

Changes in the national examination structures have renewed interest in the development of test-taking strategies for professional students in the health sciences. It is often assumed that these high-achieving students have developed proficient test-taking skills and abilities before admittance. However, the assessments in these programs and for national licensure require an elevated level of reasoning and integration with clinical concepts.

Does a large prostate size, small lesion volume, or long needle distance from the probe to the lesion reduce magnetic resonance imaging-targeted cancer detection?

Background: We aimed to evaluate whether large prostate size, small lesion volume, or long lesion distance from the ultrasound probe tip would decrease cancer detection in transrectal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-targeted biopsies.

Materials And Methods: Patients who underwent MRI-targeted biopsy at our institution between May 2017 and August 2019 were enrolled in a prospective database. Three to 5 cores were obtained from ≥2 prostate imaging reporting and data system v2 lesions.

Background: In this investigation, we explored the effects of pharmacological cholinergic stimulation on cardiac function and renal inflammation following acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs).

Methods: Adult male SHRs were randomized into three experimental groups: sham-operated; AMI + Veh (infarcted, treated with vehicle); and AMI + PY (infarcted, treated with the cholinesterase inhibitor, pyridostigmine bromide (PY)-40 mg/kg, once daily for seven days). Rats were euthanized 7 or 30 days post-surgery.

Viral vector vaccines represent a substantial advancement in immunization technology, offering numerous benefits over traditional vaccine modalities. The Orf virus (ORFV) strain D1701-VrV is a particularly promising candidate for vaccine development due to its distinctive attributes, such as a good safety profile, the ability to elicit both humoral and cellular immunity, and its favorable genetic and thermal stability. Despite ORFV's theoretical safety advantages, such as its narrow host range and limited systemic spread post-inoculation, a critical gap persists between these theoretical benefits and the empirical evidence regarding its in vivo safety profile.

3D genomic mapping reveals multifocality of human pancreatic precancers.

Pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasias (PanINs) are the most common precursors of pancreatic cancer, but their small size and inaccessibility in humans make them challenging to study. Critically, the number, dimensions and connectivity of human PanINs remain largely unknown, precluding important insights into early cancer development. Here, we provide a microanatomical survey of human PanINs by analysing 46 large samples of grossly normal human pancreas with a machine-learning pipeline for quantitative 3D histological reconstruction at single-cell resolution.

The Patient-Physician Relationship: Medical Students' Perceptions in a Novel Course.

The patient-physician relationship, especially in the case of severely ill patients, is often fraught with anxiety, grief, and guilt in the physician who may come to feel that he or she has failed the patient and thereby becomes a "second victim." This notion was first explored in a 1973 publication (Artiss and Levine N Engl J Med 288(23):1210-4, 1973) that described a novel interactive seminar series for oncology fellows that had been designed to address and possibly remedy the frequent disquiet experienced by young physicians in this setting. Fifty years later, the medical student co-authors of this Perspective enrolled in an elective course that comprised a similar series of interactive seminars, now addressing the contemporary patient-physician relationship.

CAR T-cell therapy induces a high rate of prolonged remission in relapsed primary CNS lymphoma: Real-life results of the LOC network.

The prognosis of relapsed primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) remains dismal. CAR T-cells are a major contributor to systemic lymphomas, but their use in PCNSL is limited. From the LOC network database, we retrospectively selected PCNSL who had leukapheresis for CAR-T cells from the third line of treatment, and, as controls, PCNSL treated with any treatment, at least in the third line and considered not eligible for ASCT.

Galectins in epithelial-mesenchymal transition: roles and mechanisms contributing to tissue repair, fibrosis and cancer metastasis.

Galectins are soluble glycan-binding proteins that interact with a wide range of glycoproteins and glycolipids and modulate a broad spectrum of physiological and pathological processes. The expression and subcellular localization of different galectins vary among tissues and cell types and change during processes of tissue repair, fibrosis and cancer where epithelial cells loss differentiation while acquiring migratory mesenchymal phenotypes. The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) that occurs in the context of these processes can include modifications of glycosylation patterns of glycolipids and glycoproteins affecting their interactions with galectins.

Complete DPYD genotyping combined with dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase phenotyping to prevent fluoropyrimidine toxicity: A retrospective study.

Introduction: In April 2019, French authorities mandated dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) screening, specifically testing uracilemia, to mitigate the risk of toxicity associated with fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy. However, this subject is still of debate as there is no consensus on a standardized DPD deficiency screening test. We conducted a real-life retrospective study with the aim of assessing the impact of DPD screening on the occurrence of severe toxicity and exploring the potential benefits of complete genotyping using next-generation sequencing.

Increase in complicated upper respiratory tract infection in children during the 2022/2023 winter season-a post coronavirus disease 2019 effect?

Background: Upper respiratory tract infections usually peak during winter months.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether imaging of complicated upper airway infection in children increased during the winter season of 2022/2023.

Materials And Methods: In a retrospective study setting, pediatric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans for evaluation of upper respiratory tract infection performed between October 2022 and April 2023 were analyzed regarding presence of the following complications: mastoiditis, abscess, phlegmon, meningitis, reactive vasculitis, and sinus vein thrombosis.

Chronic low-grade inflammation has been recognized as an underlying event linking obesity to cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, inflammatory alterations in individuals who are overweight remain understudied. To provide insight, we determined the levels of key circulating biomarkers of endotoxemia and inflammation, including lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), CRP, IL-6, leptin, and adiponectin in adult female subjects (n = 20) who were lean or overweight and had high cholesterol and/or high blood pressure - two important conventional risk factors for CVD.

Predictive Factors of Response to Immunotherapy in Lymphomas: A Multicentre Clinical Data Warehouse Study (PRONOSTIM).

Immunotherapy (IT) is a major therapeutic strategy for lymphoma, significantly improving patient prognosis. IT remains ineffective for a significant number of patients, however, and exposes them to specific toxicities. Lung Function in Patients with Cystic Fibrosis before and during -Modulator Therapy Using 3D Ultrashort Echo Time MRI.

Background The triple combination of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator (CFTR) modulators elexacaftor, tezacaftor, and ivacaftor (hereafter, elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor) has a positive effect on lung function in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Purpose To compare three-dimensional (3D) ultrashort echo time (UTE) MRI functional lung data to common functional lung parameters in assessing lung function in patients with CF undergoing elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor therapy. Materials and Methods In this prospective feasibility study, 16 participants with CF consented to undergo pulmonary MRI with a breath-hold 3D UTE sequence at baseline (April 2018-June 2019) and follow-up (April-July 2021).

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are important for promoting healthy learning environments for trainees, health equity for patients, and equitable career development opportunities for employees, all of which contribute to innovation in today's competitive health care environment. DEI committees can self-organize or form from institutional directives.
