Lassa Fever is a deadly viral haemorrhagic disease, causing annually several hundreds of deaths in West Africa. This zoonotic disease is primarily transmitted to humans by rodents of the genus , even though other rodents reportedly carry the Lassa virus, while secondary interhuman transmission accounts for approximately 20% of cases. Although this disease has been endemic in rural zones of Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberfia, and Guinea for hundreds of years, it is also characterised by epidemic outbreaks in the dry season, responsible for heavy death tolls.

The aim of this study was to compare early blood culture testing protocols in terms of their ability to shorten the delay between blood sampling and appropriate antibiotic therapy.
Methods: In this french observational study, we compared three blood culture testing protocols.
Background: How coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) is affecting management of myocardial infarction is a matter of concern, as medical resources have been massively reorientated and the population has been in lockdown since 17 March 2020 in France.
Aims: To describe how lockdown has affected the evolution of the weekly rate of myocardial infarctions (non-ST-segment and ST-segment elevation) hospital admissions in Lyon, the second largest city in France. To verify the trend observed, the same analysis was conducted for an identical time window during 2018-2019 and for an unavoidable emergency, i.
Background: Osteoporotic hip fractures (OHF) are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The French medico-administrative database (SNIIRAM) offers an interesting opportunity to improve the management of OHF. However, the validity of studies conducted with this database relies heavily on the quality of the algorithm used to detect OHF.

Methods: The 72 least medicalized areas of Burgundy were the target areas. An orthoptist took fundus photographs using a Topcon TRC-NW6S non-mydriatic camera (four fields: posterior pole; nasal; temporal; and upper).
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield of glaucoma and ocular hypertension (OHT) screening in association with diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening in a rural population.
Patients And Methods: 676 patients were screened between 2004 and 2005. The four departments the Burgundy region were visited, divided into 39 areas with sparse medical services.
Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess the suitability of screening diabetic retinopathy (DR) with an itinerant nonmydriatic camera.
Methods: This program required collaboration between ophthalmologists and general practitioners. Three professional organizations gave their support: L'union Professionnelle des Médecins Libéraux de Bourgogne (UPMLB), le Fonds d'Aide à la Qualité des Soins de Ville (FAQSV), et la Fédération des Associations des Diabétiques de Bourgogne (FADB).
Introduction: Since 1992 France has been running a toxoplasmosis prevention program based on the serological detection of infections during pregnancy. In the absence of a consensus, the seroconversions discovered are managed in different ways, varying from one centre to another.
Objective: To describe the habits of the specialised centres in France and propose means to reduce the heterogeneity.

To assess the regional perinatal network of Burgundy (20 obstetrical units; 18,000 births/year), discharge abstracts are collected for all mothers and all neonates. Discharge abstracts are expanded with some additional data. According to the French law, data are rendered anonymous in each hospital before their transmission to the teaching hospital for statistical analysis.

This paper describes the four successive steps of this organization: description of the perinatal dysfunctions through survey(s), elaboration of medical recommendations, set up of a new organization, evaluation of the efficiency of the new organization.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAfter the implementation of the Medicare Prospective Payment System (PPS) in the USA, many European countries like France have introduced DRGs to curb hospital overspending. However, there has been some reluctance from hospital actors, especially because of the heterogeneous nature of DRG's. To analyse this situation, we propose a method based on distribution modelization of length of stays and costs within DRGs.
