Plasma amino acids in 3/sec spike-wave epilepsy.

Plasma levels of 14 amino acids were determined in 44 probands with 3/sec spike-wave epilepsy, 27 of their first-degree relatives, and 22 controls. Six ratios of metabolically related amino acids were also calculated. Statistically significant differences were found for 7/20 variables when the experimental and control probands were compared, and for 6/20 variables when the relatives were compared with controls.

Genetic influence on serum igd levels.

In order to better understand the factors determining serum levels of IgD, total serum IgD and IgE were studied in 23 nonallergic twin pairs, consisting of 16 monozygotic (Mz and 7 same-sex dizygotic (Dz) pairs. Both immunoglobulins were measured by a paper disc solid phase radioimmunoassay, sensitive to 1 microgram/dl of IgD and 1 I.U.

Idiopathic neonatal hepatitis: discordance in monozygotic twins.

Idiopathic neonatal hepatitis is the uncommon syndrome of prolonged obstructive jaundice associated with giant cell transformation in the liver and patent bile ducts. Either hepatitis virus or an inherited abnormality has been suggested as a likely pathogenic agent for the syndrome.Recent observation of discordance for idiopathic neonatal hepatitis in monozygotic twins is felt to be inconsistent with either an infectious or a simple genetic etiology.
