Purpose: Simple epididymal cysts (EC) are rare in childhood and are mostly diagnosed at puberty. Although there is no consensus on the treatment, a conservative approach is generally preferred. To evaluate patients diagnosed with EC at our clinic in terms of presenting symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment methods.

Objective: Chronic use of glucocorticoids during childhood can lead to a decrease in hormone release, including ACTH, GH, TSH, and LH, as well as reduced IGF-1 activity. This can result in osteoporotic changes and hinder growth in height. Resveratrol, an antioxidant with phytoestrogen properties, may improve bone health by increasing bone mineral density in postmenopausal women.

Although there are many treatment options available for depression, a large portion of patients with depression are diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression (TRD), which is characterized by an inadequate response to antidepressant treatment. Identifying the TRD population is crucial in terms of saving time and resources in depression treatment. Recently several studies employed various methods on EEG datasets for automatic depression detection or treatment outcome prediction.

  • This study examined the anaesthetic effects of fennel and anise essential oils on common carp, testing nine different concentrations for their effectiveness.
  • Fennel oil proved to be an effective anaesthetic with minimal harmful effects on fish tissues, while anise oil led to deep anaesthesia but caused significant mortality at higher concentrations.
  • Blood parameters remained mostly stable during anaesthesia except for reduced glucose levels in fish treated with anise oil, highlighting fennel oil as a safer alternative for anaesthesia in carp.

Compliance with guidelines in the empirical treatment for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is very important to increase treatment success and reduce mortality. This study aimed to determine compliance with guideline recommendations for CAP and define the role of the clinical pharmacist (CP). Patients diagnosed with CAP were evaluated retrospectively between January 2018 and January 2020 and prospectively between February 2020 and February 2021.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to see the effects of smoking prevalence, the length of stay regarding the usage of cigarettes, and the effects on the mortality of COVID-19 in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Methods: This is a retrospective single-centered study that was done in the ICU on patients with COVID-19 between 16th of March and 16 of May in 2020. The demographic data, comorbidity status, the units they were accepted from, clinical symptoms, respiratory support, prevalence of smoking, length of stay in the ICU, and mortalities of the patients were recorded.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a highly common psychiatric disorder. The symptoms of this condition overlap and co-occur with those of other psychiatric illnesses, making diagnosis difficult. The availability of biomarkers could be useful for aiding in diagnosis, although prior neuroimaging studies were unable to provide such biomarkers.

Objective: This study presents DraiNet, a deep learning model developed to detect pneumothorax and pleural effusion in pediatric patients and aid in assessing the necessity for tube thoracostomy. The primary goal is to utilize DraiNet as a decision support tool to enhance clinical decision-making in the management of these conditions.

Methods: DraiNet was trained on a diverse dataset of pediatric CT scans, carefully annotated by experienced surgeons.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed how S. officinalis (sage) essential oil affects the growth, health, and antioxidant activity in common carp (C. carpio) over a 60-day period.
  • Fish fed with 1 ml/kg of sage oil showed an increase in superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, but overall growth performance and other health markers remained unchanged.
  • Importantly, carp experienced no mortality when exposed to a bacteria challenge after being fed with the sage oil, suggesting it improves gut health, disease resistance, and fertility in the fish.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of lymph node dissection method on staging results, diagnosis of tumor metastasis in single or multiple N1 lymph nodes and survival rates in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: Patients with NSCLC who underwent anatomic resection between September 2014 and October 2019 were examined prospectively. All patients with similar clinico-demographic characteristics were randomly assigned to either the surgical group (n = 83) or the pathology group (n = 87).

Article Synopsis
  • Probiotic yeasts have become popular in aquaculture due to their health benefits for farmed fish, with a focus on autochthonous yeasts identified from goldfish.
  • Four specific yeast strains were characterized from the intestinal tracts of healthy goldfish, and their probiotic properties were tested for things like cell surface hydrophobicity and ability to tolerate pH and bile salts.
  • Results showed that these strains can co-aggregate with harmful bacteria and tolerate low pH, highlighting their potential as probiotic candidates, but further testing in real-life aquaculture settings is needed.

Background: Fatigue is a common problem in pediatric rheumatic diseases and is associated with poor quality of life. However, no validated methods are available to measure fatigue in adolescents with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF). The aim of the study was to establish validity and reliability for the child self-report PedsQL Multidimensional Fatigue Scale (PedsQL-MFS) and to investigate the effects of physical characteristics, diseaserelated characteristics, sleep quality/duration, and the amount of physical activity on fatigue in adolescents with FMF.

Introduction: The clinical and physiological effects of long-duration use of N95-type masks without ventilation valves, on health-care workers during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, were evaluated.

Methods: All volunteering personnel working in operating theater or intensive care unit, using nonventilated N95 type respiratory masks, minimum for a 2-h noninterrupted duration were observed. The partial oxygen saturation (SpO) and heart rate (HR) were recorded before wearing the N95 mask and at 1 and 2 h.

Introduction: Patients in intensive care units (ICU) are 5-7 times more susceptible to infection than other groups, which increases the prevalence of hospital-acquired infections and associated sepsis accounting for 60% of deaths. Gram-negative bacteria are the most common source of urinary tract infections that cause morbidity, mortality, and sepsis in the ICU. The aim of this study is to detect the most commonly grown microorganisms and antibiotic resistance in urine cultures in the intensive care units of our tertiary city hospital, which has more than 20% of the ICU beds in Bursa By this way, we suppose that we will contribute to surveillance studies in our province, our country.
