The concurrent challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and a significant earthquake in Izmir on October 30, 2020, presented a unique scenario for disaster management and response. This study focuses on the impact of the earthquake, which resulted in 117 fatalities, including 1 due to drowning, and injured 1034 individuals, alongside widespread structural damage including to the Izmir Democracy University Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital. The objective is to assess the activation and implementation of the hospital disaster plan amidst the ongoing pandemic.

Purpose: Paraquat (PQ; 1,1'dimethyl-bipyridilium 4,4'-dichloride), which is used extensively throughout the world, is highly toxic to humans. We aimed to investigate the protective effects of different doses of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) on PQ-intoxicated rats.

Materials And Methods: A total of 80 rats were divided into the following eight groups, comprising 10 rats in each group: group 1: control; group 2: administered with CAPE (10 µmol/kg); group 3: administered with 15 mg/kg PQ (PQ15 group); group 4: administered with 30 mg/kg PQ (PQ30 group); group 5: administered with 45 mg/kg PQ (PQ45 group); group 6: administered with 15 mg/kg PQ + CAPE; group 7: administered with 30 mg/kg PQ + CAPE and group 8: administered with 45 mg/kg PQ + CAPE.

Background: Although the incidence has declined over the past years in societies with high socioeconomic status, bronchiectasis is still an important health problem in our country.

Aim: To review and present our cases undergoing surgery for bronchiectasis in the past 12 years and their early and late term postoperative outcomes and our experience in bronchiectasis surgery and the effect of morphological type on the prognosis.

Methods: The medical records of 62 cases undergoing surgical resection for bronchiectasis in the Clinics of Thoracic and Pediatric Surgery were evaluated retrospectively.

An unusual foreign body of the esophagus.

Foreign bodies in the esophagus can result in serious complications depending on the size and shape of the ingested body. This report presents an unusual esophageal foreign body (endotracheal tube) caused by a physician who was inexperienced in endotracheal intubation during the treatment of generalized convulsive status epilepticus. When the patient was transferred to our hospital, rigid esophagoscopy was used to extract the endotracheal tube.

Background: In this retrospective study, we aimed to emphasize that thoracentesis is a fast and safe method to evaluate indication for thoracotomy in patients with thoracic trauma who have preshock or shock findings, without losing time by other examinations such as X - ray studies.

Methods: File records of 424 patients who were admitted to Thoracic Surgery Deparments of Adiyaman State Hospital and Medical School of Yuzuncu Yil University between December 1994 and March 2002, were investigated.

Results: There were 371(87,5%) male and 53 (12,5%) female patients, aged 5 to 89 (mean, 38,35).
