Vaginal candidiasis (VC) is a prevalent condition among women of reproductive age and poses a significant global public health challenge. However, the disease is often diagnosed and treated without mycological information. We investigated the epidemiology, laboratory diagnostics, and antifungal susceptibility of VC.

Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) is the development of anemia, hyperbilirubinemia, and finally hydrops fetalis in the fetus when antibodies to antigens on the surface of erythrocytes are transferred from the placenta to the fetus. The most common cause is D-HDFN. K (KEL1) from the Kell blood group system is the most potent immunogenic antigen after D among all blood group antigens.

Candida krusei also known as Pichia kudriavzevii is a potentially multidrug-resistant yeast because it is intrinsically resistant to fluconazole and develops acquired resistance to echinocandins and polyenes. Here, we aim to provide a better understanding of the epidemiology and transmission modes of C. krusei infections by comparing invasive bloodstream (n = 35) and non-invasive vaginal (n = 20) C.

Objectives: Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is usually treated by hysterectomy performed through a midline incision. We hypothesize that PAS surgery can be performed through a Joel-Cohen incision with adequate sight and safety.

Material And Methods: The data on women having a hysterectomy due to PAS between 2013-2021 was collected retrospectively.

We aimed to investigate whether transvaginal ultrasonography (TVUSG)-measured tumour size, pattern and location were significant predictors for lymph node metastasis in the uterus-confined endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC) patients. A total of 213 patients with EEC were recruited and 73 of them were considered eligible and were analysed according to lymph node involvement. Tumour size, pattern and location measured by transvaginal ultrasound were recorded.

Background: Among women who have suffered loss of pregnancy, the level of grief decreases gradually. Age, mental health status and childlessness are the factors known to mostly affect women's levels of grief.

Objectives: To assess the levels of grief among women who experienced perinatal loss and the changes in their ruminative thought styles over the first year after their loss.

Objectives: To evaluate the perinatal outcomes of antenatally diagnosed omphalocele cases.

Material And Methods: This was a retrospective study conducted between July 2014 and February 2020 at the prenatal diagnosis center of a university clinic. Gestational week of diagnosis, associated anomalies, karyotype analysis results, complications during pregnancy, termination/delivery characteristics, and postnatal results were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines high-grade endometrial adenocarcinomas, specifically Grade 3 endometrioid adenocarcinomas (G3 EAC), Type 2 endometrial carcinomas (Type 2 EC), and uterine carcinosarcomas (UCS).
  • A total of 235 patients were divided into three groups based on tumor type and various factors such as age, initial symptoms, and invasion metrics were compared across groups.
  • While no significant difference in overall survival was found, variations in clinical and pathological features suggest that these cancers should be treated as distinct categories despite similar survivability outcomes.

Objective: To evaluate sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) cases according to associated cardiac, extracardiac, and chromosomal anomalies in the prenatal period, and to review their outcomes.

Materials And Methods: Data of pregnancies with a prenatal diagnosis of SCT between 2009 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed.

Results: One ongoing pregnancy was excluded.

Background And Objectives: Limited data are present on safety and efficiency of epinephrine for the prophylaxis and treatment of spinal-hypotension. This study was conducted to compare the effect of epinephrine with norepinephrine and phenylephrine on the treatment of spinal-hypotension and ephedrine requirement during cesarean delivery.

Methods: One hundred and sixty parturients with uncomplicated pregnancies undergoing elective cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia were recruited.

Objectives: We hoped to reveal the frequency of Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery (ARSA) and to find the relationship of isolated/non-isolated ARSA with chromosomal defects and other fetal congenital heart diseases (FCHD) in a heterogeneous population.

Material And Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study conducted between December 2015 to September 2018. Women admitted for routine ultrasound examination or referred to our hospital for a suspected fetal anomaly were underwent detailed fetal anomaly ultrasonography scan and tested for the presence of ARSA.

Objectives: Our primary aim was to evaluate the ability of various cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) reference values suggested by the Fetal Medicine Foundation to predict adverse neonatal outcomes in term fetuses exhibiting late-onset fetal growth restriction (LOFGR). Our secondary aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of other obstetric Doppler parameters used to assess fetal well-being in terms of predicting adverse neonatal outcomes.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of 317 pregnant women diagnosed with LOFGR at 37-40 weeks of gestation between January 1, 2016, and September 1, 2019.

Objective: Abnormal placental invasion (API) is defined as an abnormal adherence of the placenta to the underlying uterine wall. Undiagnosed API may result in catastrophic maternal haemorrhage during delivery. In the present retrospective analysis, anaesthetic and surgical records were evaluated in patients with API who had undergone caesarean delivery (CD).

Objective: To evaluate persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) cases according to associated cardiac, extracardiac, and chromosomal anomalies in the prenatal period and to review their outcomes.

Materials And Methods: The data of patients with a prenatal diagnosis of PLSVC between January 2013 and December 2017 were reviewed retrospectively.

Results: Data of 32 cases were reviewed.

Objective: Cancer-related inflammation is associated with poor long-term outcomes in various solid tumors. The aim of this study is to investigate the prognostic significance of pre-operative neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte count (MC), mean platelet volume (MPV), and platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in endometrial cancer.

Study Design: In this study, 763 patients with endometrial cancer were evaluated, who were followed between January 1996 and February 2016.

Objective: Fetal structural malformations affect approximately 2-3% of all pregnancies. Only focusing on trisomy screening in first trimester and deferring the anatomic screening to second trimester may result with late detection of major anomalies that can be diagnosed earlier with careful examination.

Material And Methods: This was a descriptive study of retrospective data that were obtained from all terminated single pregnancies due to ultrasonographic findings of major anomalies from 2011 to 2016 in our department.

Pectus excavatum (PE) is the depression of the lower part of manubrium sterni and xiphoid process. The main problem of PE depends on the cardiopulmonary morbidity caused by the narrowing of the thoracic space. To date, prenatal diagnosis of this deformity has been reported only once and was associated with Down syndrome.

Objective: The predictive value of spot urine protein-to-creatinine ratio (PCR) for estimating total 24-hour proteinuria in severe preeclampsia is unclear. This study aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of spot urine PCR for ascertaining the magnitude of proteinuria in women with preeclampsia of varying severity.

Methods: A total of 205 patients with prediagnosed preeclampsia were included in this prospective cohort study.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of fetal aortic Doppler ultrasound for detecting hemoglobin disorders during the first trimester of pregnancy.
  • - A total of 108 pregnant couples, who were carriers of various hemoglobinopathies, were monitored using Doppler measurements an hour before chorionic villus sampling (CVS).
  • - Results indicated that the Doppler indices did not show meaningful differences between the groups tested, concluding that fetal aortic Doppler is not a reliable method for diagnosing hemoglobinopathies prenatally.
