Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to compare the expression of p53 and Ki67 in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) cases located in unusual versus usual sites, given their roles in cell growth in skin cancers.
  • Researchers examined 33 tissue samples, finding that tumors in unusual locations were larger, and size increased with patient age; however, there were no significant differences in p53 and Ki67 expression between the groups.
  • A correlation was observed between the staining rates of Ki67 and p53, but overall, the findings indicate no notable differences in expression levels for these markers across the locations studied.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the diagnostic accuracy of cutting-needle biopsy (CNB) with excisional biopsy for diagnosing enlarging lymph nodes, using data from 60 cases that underwent both biopsies.
  • Results showed that 88.3% of excisional biopsies were malignant, with a significant portion diagnosed as Hodgkin's lymphoma, while CNB demonstrated high sensitivity (90%) but lower negative predictive value.
  • The conclusion emphasizes CNB's advantages as a non-invasive and cost-effective alternative to excisional biopsy, though surgical excision is still recommended due to CNB's lower sensitivity.

Objective: In studies on the relationship between amino-terminal propeptide of C-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proCNP) concentration and height velocity in children, CNP has been implicated as an emerging new growth marker during childhood. It has been reported that besides its well-studied role in growth, plasma CNP levels are reduced in overweight and/or obese adolescents, suggesting CNP as a potential biomarker in childhood obesity. The primary goal of this study was to test this hypothesis in a Turkish population.
