Background And Aim: This study explores healthcare professionals' perspectives on end-of-life care in pediatric intensive care units (ICUs) in Croatia, aiming to illuminate their experiences with such practices, underlying attitudes, and major decision-making considerations. Amid the high variability, complexity, and emotional intensity of pediatric end-of-life decisions and practices, understanding these perspectives is crucial for improving care and policies.
Methods: The study utilized a cross-sectional survey intended for physicians and nurses across all pediatric ICUs in Croatia.
We describe the first total synthesis of penicyclone A, a novel deep-sea fungus-derived polyketide, and a reevaluation of its antimicrobial activity. The synthesis of this unique spirolactone was achieved in 10 steps starting from a known d-ribose derivative. The key steps include a double Grignard reaction for the diastereoselective construction of the chiral tertiary alcohol intermediate, tandem oxidation/cyclization, and photooxygenation, followed by an oxidative rearrangement to introduce the enone functionality.

This study investigated for the first time the perceptions, experiences and challenges that healthcare professionals face when dealing with end-of-life decisions in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) in Croatia. This qualitative study with focus groups was conducted among physicians and nurses working in NICUs and PICUs in five healthcare institutions (three pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) and five neonatal intensive care units (NICUs)) at the tertiary level of healthcare in the Republic of Croatia, in Zagreb, Rijeka and Split.

This opening article for the volume dedicated to the diversity of paediatric healthcare systems in Europe, discusses the topic of children facing natural, economic, and public health crises in Europe. The natural and economic adversities and public health crises, which have repeatedly stormed the globe during the past twenty years, have often unveiled a low degree of self-sufficiency and a high degree of unpreparedness by European countries. It is always the case that the most vulnerable take the brunt, and these adverse events have shown their effects and a negative direct impact particularly on the population aged 0-18 years, with important implications for families and communities.

Journals may strive to improve their metrics by choosing manuscripts and study designs that are more likely to be cited. The aim of this study was to identify the 50 most-cited articles in the field of pediatrics, analyze their study design and other characteristics of those articles, and assess the prevalence of systematic reviews among them.
