Article Synopsis
  • This study assesses the fracture strength of implant-supported fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) made from 3D-printed resin, comparing those with and without fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) frameworks.
  • Forty FDPs were made in two types: monolithic (all resin) and bi-layer (resin with FRC framework), with testing conducted on aging and control samples to measure their resistance to bending.
  • Results showed that FDPs with the FRC framework had significantly higher fracture strength, while aging didn't affect strength but influenced failure patterns, mainly occurring at the connectors, especially in the premolar area.

The knowledge of the forces acting on a structure enables, among many other factors, assessments of whether the component's useful life is compromised by the current machine condition. In many cases, a direct measurement of those forces becomes unfeasible, and an inverse problem must be solved. Among the solutions developed, machine learning techniques have stood out as powerful predictive tools increasingly applied to engineering problem-solving.

  • Ultra-rush venom immunotherapy is a quick way to help people avoid bad reactions to bee or wasp stings, and it has been shown to be safe and effective.
  • In a study with 110 patients who were treated from 2008 to 2021, almost all completed the therapy, and many did not have any bad reactions.
  • Younger people, beekeepers, and those treated for bee stings had more reactions, but starting with a low dose of 1 µg was found to be safe and could save time.

Introduction: Professionalism is fundamental to the existence of professions. In pharmacy, interest in this theme improved with events that examined the resocialization of pharmacists in care. With this, evaluating professionalism can help the operationalization of the theme and, consequently, the development of strategies for pharmacy consolidation before its challenges.

Rare and unknown actinobacteria from unexplored environments have the potential to produce new bioactive molecules. This study aimed to use 16 s rRNA metabarcoding to determine the composition of the actinobacterial community, particularly focusing on rare and undescribed species, in a nature reserve within the Brazilian Cerrado called Sete Cidades National Park. Since this is an inaccessible area without due legal authorization, it is understudied, and, therefore, its diversity and biotechnological potential are not yet fully understood, and it may harbor species with groundbreaking genetic potential.

Aims: This systematic review aimed to investigate the occurrence of moderate and severe adverse drug reactions (ADRs) to antimicrobials among hospitalized children.

Methods: The PubMed/Medline, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Lilacs and CINAHL databases were searched in April 2023 to systematically review the published data describing the characteristics of moderate and severe ADRs to antimicrobials among hospitalized children. The search was carried out without date restrictions, up to the search date (April, 2023).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the role of inflammatory cytokines in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), specifically comparing those with claudication to those with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) to assess their serum cytokine levels.
  • Conducted from January 2018 to July 2022, the research involved 119 patients and utilized a comprehensive panel of 27 cytokines, revealing that patients with CLTI had significantly higher levels of 11 specific cytokines compared to those with claudication.
  • The findings indicated a correlation between elevated cytokine levels, particularly in CLTI patients who underwent major amputations, suggesting that inflammatory markers could be potential prognostic indicators for PAD outcomes.

Background: Approximately 10 to 20% of pregnant women worldwide experience perinatal depression (PND), a depressive episode with onset during pregnancy or after childbirth. We performed a systematic review to identify, summarize and discuss studies on inflammatory biomarkers described in relation to PND.

Method: Inclusion criteria defined the selection of observational studies written in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese, that evaluate analytical levels of inflammatory molecules (protein levels) in biological fluids in women, with a diagnosis of depression using ICD/DSM diagnostic criteria or depressive symptoms assessed by standardized psychometric instruments, during pregnancy and/or postpartum.
