Quality of life of early stage colorectal cancer patients in Morocco.

Background: A multicentre cohort study was held in Morocco, designed to evaluate the quality of life of cancer patients. The aim of this paper is to report the assessment of the quality of life of early colorectal cancer patients, before and after cancer treatment, to identify other factors which are related to this quality of life.

Methods: We used the third version of the QLQ-C30 questionnaire of the European organization for Research and treatment of Cancer (EORTC) after a transcultural validation.

Colorectal cancer: new developments after the 2013 ECCO/ESMO congress.

In 2013, at the congress of the European CanCer Organization and the European Society for Medical Oncology, colorectal cancer was the subject of various oral presentations and posters. In this article, we have selected the most innovative studies that are likely to change our daily practice.

Primary breast leiomyosarcoma.

Primary leiomyosarcoma of the breast is an extremely rare neoplasm. Only few cases have been reported in the literature. We report here a case of breast leiomyosarcoma in a 44-years-old female and we discuss the data of the existing literature.

[Epidemiological and pathological features of cancer in Fez Boulemane region, Morocco].

In Fez-Boulemane, Morocco, there is no cancer registry so there is a lack of information about the incidence and characteristics of cancer in the region. In this retrospective study we examined the epidemiological and pathological features of 5532 cases of cancer collected from the Department of Pathology in Hassan II University Hospital of Fes from 2004 to 2010. The mean age of the patients was 53.

Gynecologic bleeding revealing vaginal metastasis of renal cell carcinoma.

Vaginal metastases of renal cell carcinoma have been rarely described. We report a case of a 75-year old woman, who underwent radical right nephrectomy for a renal cell carcinoma. Tumour was classified pT3bN0M0 and grade III of Furhmann grading.

Quasi-Complete Response of Classic Kaposi's Sarcoma Treated with Weekly Paclitaxel.

Classic Kaposi's sarcoma (CKS) is a subtype that traditionally occurs in elderly HIV-negative males of Mediterranean origin. Patients with CKS characteristically present with skin lesions in the distal extremities. Involvement of the viscera is uncommon but may occur in the late stages of the disease.

Askin's tumor: a case report and literature review.

Askin's tumor is a primitive neuroectodermal tumor developing from the soft tissues of the chest wall. Its diagnosis approach is complex and requires a multidisciplinary team. Given the rarity of this entity, no regimen has been validated in the literature.

Visceral Kaposi's Sarcoma Related to Human Herpesvirus-8 in Liver Transplant Recipient: Case Report and Literature Review.

Background. Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) in transplant recipients is about 400 to 500 times rate in the general population. It is strongly associated to Human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) infection which has been found in 95% of KS lesions.

Small bowel adenocarcinoma complicating coeliac disease: a report of three cases and the literature review.

Coeliac disease is associated with an increased risk of malignancy, not only of intestinal lymphoma but also of small intestinal adenocarcinoma which is 82 times more common in patients with celiac disease than in the normal population. We report three additional cases of a small bowel adenocarcinoma in the setting of coeliac disease in order to underline the epidemiological features, clinicopathological findings, and therapeutic approaches of this entity based on a review of the literature. The three patients underwent a surgical treatment followed by adjuvant chemotherapy based on capecitabine/oxaliplatin regimen, and they have well recovered.

Common bile duct adenocarcinoma in a patient with situs inversus totalis: report of a rare case.

Background: Situs inversus totalis represents an unusual anomaly characterized by a mirror-image transposition of the abdominal and thoracic viscera. It often occurs concomitantly with other disorders that make difficult diagnosis and management of abdominal pathology. The relationship between situs inversus totalis and cancer remains unclear.

Luminal B tumors are the most frequent molecular subtype in breast cancer of North African women: an immunohistochemical profile study from Morocco.

Background: Breast cancer may be classified into luminal A, luminal B, HER2+/ER-, basal-like and normal-like subtypes based on gene expression profiling or immunohistochemical (IHC) characteristics. The aim of our study is to show the molecular profile characteristic of breast cancer in the North African population of Morocco. This work showed preliminary results and correlations with clinicopathological and histological parameters.

A Case of a Metastatic Disease to the Pancreas from a Small-Cell Lung Carcinoma Documented by a CT-Scan-Guided Trucut Biopsy: The Diagnostic Role of Cytomorphology and Immunohistochemistry.

Unlike primary pancreatic carcinoma, metastatic lesions of the pancreas are uncommon and account for approximately 2% of pancreatic malignancies. Small-cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) represents a group of highly malignant tumors giving rise to early and widespread metastasis at the time of diagnosis. However, the pancreas is a relatively infrequent site of metastasis by this neoplasm, and reports on metastatic small-cell carcinoma (SCC) in the pancreas, either of pulmonary or extrapulmonary origin, to be diagnosed by CT-scan-guided trucut biopsy (CT-TCB) are very rare.

Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma of the Vater's Ampulla: A Very Rare Malignancy.

Most tumors affecting Vater's ampulla are adenocarcinomas, and other histological variants are less frequent. Signet ring cell carcinoma is more commonly found in the stomach than at other sites of the digestive system. Signet ring cell carcinoma of the Vater's ampulla is extremely rare, and only 15 cases have previously been described in the literature.

Non-HIV Kaposi's sarcoma: a review and therapeutic perspectives.

"Classic" Kaposi's sarcoma (CKS) not related to HIV is a multifocal angioproliferative neoplasm that is linked to human herpesvirus. CKS is a cutaneous cancer frequently occurring with an indolent course. However, it can compromise the quality of life by causing pain, disfigurement and functional disability.

Prevalence of molecular subtypes and prognosis of invasive breast cancer in north-east of Morocco: retrospective study.

Background: Breast carcinoma is known as a heterogeneous disease because gene expression analyses identify several subtypes and the molecular profiles are prognostic and predictive for patients. Our aim, in this study, is to estimate the prevalence of breast cancer subtypes and to determine the relationship between clinico-pathological characteristics, overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS) for patients coming from north-east of Morocco.

Methods: We reviewed 366 cases of breast cancer diagnosed between January 2007 to June 2010 at the Department of pathology.

Renal metastases of a femur osteosarcoma: a case report and a review of the literature.

This paper discusses a rare case of renal metastatic osteosarcoma. A 25-year-old man with a history of metastatic osteosarcoma involving his right kidney was referred to our institution for treatment. He was managed with chemotherapy.

Soft-tissue metastasis revealing a pancreatic adenocarcinoma: one case report and a review of literature.

Soft tissue metastases from pancreatic adenocarcinoma are rare lesions and can be the source of diagnostic confusion both clinically and pathologically. To our knowledge, one patient has been reported on with soft tissue lesions that ultimately disclose a pancreatic adenocarcinoma. We report here on a patient who presented with a metastatic soft tissue lesion in the trochanter, and the buttocks, as the initial manifestation of pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

[Epidemiological and biologic profile of breast cancer in Fez-Boulemane, Morocco].

In a retrospective study of 265 patients with breast cancer over 3 years (January 2007-September 2009) we examined the epidemiological profile of breast cancer to determine the impact of biological and prognostic factors on survival over 3 years and on the epidemiology of this cancer. Estrogen (RE), progesterone (RP) and human epidermal growth factor receptors (HER2) were evaluated and RE/RP/HER2 status determined. The patients were young (median age 45 years).
