In Silico Evaluation of Potential NDM-1 Inhibitors: An Integrated Docking and Molecular Dynamics Approach.

Non-fermenting Gram-negative bacteria are resistant to most antibiotics, due to the production of enzymes such as NDM-1. Faced with this challenge, computational methods have become essential for the design of NDM-1 carbapenemase inhibitors, optimizing both the time and cost of the development of new lead molecules. In this study, molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were performed in order to identify effective inhibitors against the NDM-1 enzyme.

Brunelli (Dorsoulnar) Flap for the Reconstruction of Defect of the Thumb Nail Unit After Oncological Resections With Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

Background: The Brunelli flap is an option in the reconstruction of the thumb after trauma or oncological resections. The arc of movement of the flap makes it possible to resolve defects in the proximal, palmar, dorsal, and lateral regions.

Methods: We present a case series of 11 patients in whom a Brunelli flap was performed for postoncological reconstruction, melanoma in situ, and invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the thumb nail unit associated with Mohs micrographic surgery.

The Cooper-Pair Distribution Function of Untwisted-Misaligned Bilayer Graphene.

The Cooper-pair distribution function Dcp(ω,Tc) of Untwisted-Misaligned Bilayer Graphene (UMBLG) in the presence of an external electric field is calculated and analysed within the framework of first-principle calculations. A bilayer graphene structure is proposed using a structural geometric approximation, enabling the simulation of a structure rotated at a small angle, avoiding a supercell calculation. The Dcp(ω,Tc) function of UMBLG indicates the presence of the superconducting state for specific structural configurations, which is consistent with the superconductivity in Twisted Bilayer Graphene (TBLG) reported in the literature.

Quantification of memory effects in topological two-band open quantum systems.

We incorporate non-Markovian profiles and Linear Response Theory to analyze memory effects in two-band topological quantum systems. Furthermore, we have applied a measure of non-Markovianity in terms of nonlinear optical spectroscopy. On the other hand, we resort to memory kernel, solve the integro-differential equation of the open two-band topological quantum system to describe the degrees of non-Markovianity, calculate response factors based on Linear Response Theory, and analyze non-Markovian dynamics by varying the parameters of the nonlinear spectroscopy environment of the respective open quantum system.

Impact of Protein Citrullination by Periodontal Pathobionts on Oral and Systemic Health: A Systematic Review of Preclinical and Clinical Studies.

: This review synthesizes the role of () and () in modulating immune responses through citrullination and assesses its impact on periodontitis and systemic conditions. A systematic review was conducted on preclinical and clinical studies focusing on and -induced citrullination and its effects on immune responses, particularly inflammatory pathways, and systemic diseases. The search included PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and gray literature.

Edentulism and quality of life in the Salvadoran population: a cross-sectional study.

Introduction: Edentulism is the partial or total loss of teeth, it is irreversible and disabling due to its sequelae in the masticatory, phonetic and aesthetic function that affect the quality of life.

Objective: To establish the impact of edentulism and sociodemographic factors on the quality of life of the Salvadoran population.

Materials And Methods: Secondary cross-sectional analysis of data in 3322 users of the Public Health System of El Salvador, aged 15 to > 60 years.

Mandibular bone mass density in a medieval population and its relationship with stable isotopes δ13C and δ15N.

The aim of this study was to compare the level of bone mass in digital orthopantomograms in two populations (medieval and current) using two radiomorphometric indexes, and to correlate the mandibular bone mass value, in the medieval mandible population, with stable isotope data δ13C and δ15N. An observational, cross-sectional, and analytical study on mandibles from two diachronic groups, 15 mandibles from the medieval settlement of La Torrecilla (Granada, Spain) and 15 mandibles from current patients at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Granada (Spain), matched by age and sex was conducted. The bone mass density was determined using the Mandibular Cortical Width Index (MCW) and the Mandibular Panoramic Index (PMI) in digital panoramic radiographs.

Detection and comparison of neutrophil extracellular traps in tissue samples of peri-implantitis, periodontitis, and healthy patients: A pilot study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to detect and compare the tissular expression of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in peri-implant and periodontal samples of patients with peri-implantitis, periodontitis, and controls.

Materials And Methods: An observational study was performed on patients with peri-implantitis, periodontitis, and controls. Peri-implant and/or periodontal clinical examinations were performed on each participant.

Correlation between Inflammasomes and Microbiota in Peri-Implantitis.

The activation of inflammasomes is thought to induce the inflammatory process around dental implants. No information is available on the correlation between microbiota and inflammasomes in clinical samples from patients suffering peri-implantitis. For this cross-sectional study, 30 biofilm samples were obtained from 19 patients undergoing surgical treatment for peri-implantitis because of the presence of bleeding on probing, probing depth higher than 6 mm, and radiographic bone loss higher than 3 mm.

Soft tissue epithelioid hemangioendothelioma on the palm of the hand. Case report.

Hemangioendothelioma is a malignant vascular tumor, according to ISSVA classification of vascular tumors. This patient presented an epithelioid hemangioendothelioma; this type of tumor can exhibit significant local destruction, sometimes requiring limb amputation. With deferred Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstructive surgery with multiple conventional and microsurgical techniques, partial or total amputation of the hand was avoided.

Temperature effects on the calculation of the functional derivative of Tc with respect to α2F(ω).

The functional derivative of the superconducting transition temperature Tc with respect to the electron-phonon coupling function [Formula: see text] permits identifying the frequency regions where phonons are most effective in raising Tc. This work presents an analysis of temperature effects on the calculation of the δTc/δα2F(ω) and μ* parameters. The results may permit establishing that the variation of the temperature in the δTc/δα2F(ω) and μ* parameter allows establishing patterns and conditions that are possibly related to the physical conditions in the superconducting state, with implications on the theoretical estimation of the Tc.

Accidental implant screwdriver aspiration: A case series report with literature review and proposed action protocol.

This article presents the first reported case series of three cases of aspiration of a dental implant screwdriver, which was successfully removed by flexible bronchoscopy. The report highlights preventive measures that can be taken in the dental office and the clinical signs and symptoms of the presence of a dental implant screwdriver in the bronchial tree. The nine reports published to date on this phenomenon are reviewed and compared, and an action protocol for dental practitioners, anaesthetists and pulmonologists is proposed to address this emergency.

Randomized clinical trial on the clinical effects of a toothpaste containing extra virgin olive oil, xylitol, and betaine in gingivitis.

To determine the effects on gingival bleeding, dental biofilm, and salivary flow and pH in patients with gingivitis of using toothpaste with extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO), xylitol, and betaine in comparison to a placebo or commercial toothpaste. This controlled, double blinded, and multicenter randomized clinical trial included patients with gingivitis randomly assigned to one of three groups: test group (EVOO, xylitol, and betaine toothpaste), control group 1 (placebo toothpaste), or control group 2 (commercial toothpaste). Percentage supragingival biofilm and gingival bleeding were evaluated at baseline (T0), 2 months (T2), and 4 months (T4), measuring non-stimulated salivary flow and salivary pH.

Breast Implant-associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma after Breast Reconstruction for Breast Cancer.

A patient initially operated on for aesthetic breast augmentation had a round-textured silicone gel prosthesis, , placed in a subglandular plane. The patient developed a bilateral capsular contracture, and 4 years later, underwent a complete bilateral capsulectomy with an exchange of Mentor 215 cm textured cohesive silicone-gel ultra-high profile breast implants in the same subglandular plane. One year later, the patient developed cancer in the right breast, so it was decided to perform a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction with 265 cm (left) and 310 cm (right) Natrelle (Allergan) round-textured silicone-gel implants in a submuscular plane.

Assessment of surface and electrical properties of the TiO@zeolite hybrid materials.

Degradation of pollutants in aqueous medium is of high interest due to the impact on environment and human health, therefore, design and study of the physico-chemical properties of photocatalysts for water remediation are of major significance. Among properties of photocatalyst, those related to the surface and electrical mechanism are crucial to the photocatalyst´s performance. Here we report the chemical and morphological characteristics of TiO@zeolite photocatalyst by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) respectively, and a coherent electrical conduction mechanism was proposed based on data obtained from assisted laser impedance spectroscopy (ALIS), in which the zeolite was synthesized from recycled coal fly ash.

Field-Driven Magnetic Phase Diagram and Vortex Stability in Fe Nanometric Square Prisms.

In this work, we deal with the zero temperature hysteretic properties of iron (Fe) quadrangular nanoprisms and the size conditions underlying magnetic vortex states formation. Different aspect ratios of a square base prism of thickness with free boundary conditions were considered in order to summarize our results in a proposal of a field-driven magnetic phase diagram where such vortex states are stable along the hysteresis loops. To do that, a Hamiltonian consisting of exchange, magnetostatic, Zeeman and cubic anisotropy energies was considered.

Intercostal Artery Perforator Flap for Salvage Breast Reconstruction with Exposed Breast Implants.

Unlabelled: Multiple techniques have been described for breast reconstruction surgery after breast implant exposure; breast implant removal and delayed breast reconstruction is the procedure of choice. However, in some mild exposures and infections, we propose an alternative treatment.

Methods: This is a case series of a 14-year study in 16 female patients with mild exposure of a breast implant after breast reconstruction surgery.

Managing the Systemic Impact of Periodontitis.

Periodontitis is a microbially driven host-mediated disease that leads to loss of periodontal attachment and bone. It is associated with elevation of systemic inflammatory markers and with the presence of systemic co-morbidities. Furthermore, periodontal treatment leads to a 24-48 h-long acute local and systemic inflammatory response.

A New Comorbidity in Periodontitis: and Colorectal Cancer.

There is very recent and strong evidence relating to colorectal cancer. In this narrative review, we update the knowledge about gingival dysbiosis and the characteristics of as one of the main bacteria related to periodontitis. We provide data on microbiome, epidemiology, risk factors, prognosis, and treatment of colorectal cancer, one of the most frequent tumours diagnosed and whose incidence increases every year.

Periodontitis is associated with higher subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Aim: To determine periodontitis prevalence in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to assess whether periodontitis in SLE patients is associated with a greater subclinical atherosclerosis.

Methods: An observational case-control study was conducted in SLE (cases) and patients without any rheumatic diseases (controls), matched for sex. Sociodemographic and cardiometabolic variables were gathered, and SLE activity was assessed through several indexes.

The association of periodontitis and ED with the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events has not been previously assessed. The aim of this study was to determine if the presence of periodontitis and ED has any effect on the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events.
