Unlabelled: Floods are one of the persistent major risk drivers impacting the Cuvelai-Etosha basin of northern Namibia. Locally known as , this disruptive event negatively impacts particularly the rural population, who have limited resources to combat its effects. Being mostly subsistence farmers in isolated communities, the floods wreak havoc with their homesteads, harvests, animals, and general way of life by cutting them off from their fields, neighbours, and essential services for prolonged periods.

Background/objectives: MRI is the gold standard for detecting meniscal tears; however, ultrasound may readily detect meniscal changes, obviating the need for MRI. We aim to (1) determine ultrasound sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and accuracy in detecting meniscal changes, and (2) describe characteristic meniscal changes in US and their prevalence.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of knee ultrasound scans for the presence of medial and lateral meniscal tears was conducted.

Background: The primary objective of this study was to investigate whether using a novel text messaging system improves patient overall satisfaction compared to standard care. The rapid increase of anthropogenic activity at shipping ports and surrounding coastal areas has been correlated with higher chemical contamination entering the surrounding marine environment. Chemical contaminants in marine environments can lead to significant health problems for green turtles (Chelonia mydas), especially when these contaminants accumulate in their foraging grounds. The increasing presence of contaminants of emerging concern in wastewater and their potential environmental risks require improved monitoring and analysis methods. Direct toxicity assessment (DTA) using bioassays can complement chemical analysis of wastewater discharge, but traditional in vivo tests have ethical considerations and are expensive, low-throughput, and limited to apical endpoints (mortality, reproduction, development, and growth). In vitro bioassays offer an alternative approach that is cheaper, faster, and more ethical, and can provide higher sensitivity for some environmentally relevant endpoints.

Anthropogenic debris is a global threat that impacts threatened species through various lethal and sub-lethal consequences, as well as overall ecosystem health. This study used a database of over 24,000 beach surveys of marine debris collated by the Australian Marine Debris Initiative from 2012 to 2021, with two key objectives: (1) identify variables that most influence the occurrence of debris hotspots on a continental scale and (2) use these findings to identify likely hotspots of interaction between threatened species and marine debris. The number of particles found in each beach survey was modelled alongside fifteen biological, social, and physical spatial variables including land use, physical oceanography, population, rainfall, distance to waste facilities, ports, and mangroves to identify the significant drivers of debris deposition.

A distinctive signature of the prion diseases is the accumulation of the pathogenic isoform of the prion protein, PrP, in the central nervous system of prion-affected humans and animals. PrP is also found in peripheral tissues, raising concerns about the potential transmission of pathogenic prions through human food supplies and posing a significant risk to public health. Although muscle tissues are considered to contain levels of low prion infectivity, it has been shown that myotubes in culture efficiently propagate PrP.

In this study, the performance of standalone ultraviolet (UV) photolysis and UV-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), namely, UV/hydrogen peroxide, UV/chlorine, UV/persulphate, and UV/permonosulphate, were investigated for the degradation of 31 trace organic contaminants (TrOCs). Under the tested conditions, standalone UV photolysis did not achieve effective removal of TrOCs. The simulated data used in eye-tracking-related research has been largely generated using normative eye models with little consideration of how the variations in eye biometry found in the population may influence eye-tracking outcomes. This study investigated the influence that variations in eye model parameters have on the ability of simulated data to predict real-world eye-tracking outcomes. The real-world experiments performed by two pertinent comparative studies were replicated in a simulated environment using a highcomplexity stochastic eye model that includes anatomically accurate distributions of eye biometry parameters.
