Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of cavaletti pole height on temporospatial (TPS) and ground reaction force (GRF) variables as compared to a walking gait in healthy dogs.
Animals: A total of 25 client-owned dogs were included in this study.
Procedures: This study used client-owned dogs to explore the effects of cavaletti pole height on TPS and GRF variables.
Objectives: Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) creates individualized surgical plans for free flap reconstruction of mandibular defects. Prior studies indicate that VSP can offer cost benefits due to reduced operative time and length of stay (LOS). We assessed the impact of VSP in the context of a validated postoperative abbreviated LOS clinical pathway.

Objective: The objective of this study was to utilize the FDA MAUDE (Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience) database to better assess adverse events (AE) related to use of nasal epistaxis balloons. Reports were individually tabulated and events were categorized with special attention to AEs.

Background: Eustachian tube balloon dilation (ETBD) has been Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved for refractory Eustachian tube dysfunction since 2016. While ETBD is generally seen as safe, the complication profile has not been well defined.
Objective: The objective of this study was to utilize the FDA manufacturer and user facility device experience (MAUDE) database to better assess adverse events (AE) related to ETBD.
Mandible fracture management has evolved dramatically. Therefore, the variety of surgical complications associated with mandibular fractures, and their incidences, have continued to change as well. This article aims to assess the most common and most concerning complications that can occur secondary to management of mandibular fractures by examining categories of complication types.

This study aims to compare culture results between patients with and without computed tomography findings indicative of possible odontogenic disease.

Chronic rhinosinusitis is common in this population and causes a reduction in quality of life and an increase in health care utilization. Diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps follows the same principles for elderly patients as in the general population, but the elderly population presents some diagnostic challenges worth considering.

This study provides a preliminary assessment of the Art of Addiction Recovery Program, a manualized group treatment imbedded within a comprehensive substance use disorder treatment program for pregnant and parenting women.
Methods: The Program consists of 14 sessions, each focusing on a different topic, including health, social relationships, the recovery process, well-being, and introspection.
Objectives: Assess the feasibility and impact of nanopore-based 16S rRNA gene sequencing (Np16S) service on antibiotic treatment for acute severe pneumonia on the intensive care unit (ICU).
Methods: Speciation and sequencing accuracy of Np16S on isolates with bioinformatics pipeline optimisation, followed by technical evaluation including quality checks and clinical-reporting criteria analysing stored respiratory samples using single-sample flow cells. Pilot service comparing Np16S results with all routine respiratory tests and impact on same-day antimicrobial prescribing.
Objective: Low-dose nonselective blockade is an effective treatment for problematic infantile hemangioma (PIH). Screening electrocardiograms (ECG) are performed prior to the initiation of propranolol to minimize the risk of exacerbating undiagnosed heart block. How ECG results affect subsequent propranolol usage and patient management remains unclear.

Methods: Records for 171 patients prior to and 67 patients following implementation of an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol for ambulatory thyroid/parathyroid surgeries were reviewed. The ERAS included superficial cervical plexus block, multimodal premedication, and postoperative reliance on acetaminophen and ibuprofen with judicious prescribing of opioids.

Chairside CAD/CAM is a convenient approach for fabricating dental restorations. However, the effect of CAD/CAM restoration type on marginal fit accuracy has not been fully investigated. This study evaluated of the marginal fit accuracy of 3 chairside CAD/ CAM restoration types (crown, inlay and onlay) using CEREC Bluecam (BC) and CEREC Omnicam (OC) scanners.

This column examines important articles and imagery from 25 years ago. In doing so, we gain some insight into those legacy photographic tools and techniques of that time.

Despite high recanalization rates, up to half of the patients will not present a good neurological outcome after MT. Therapeutic hypothermia is perhaps the most robust neuroprotectant studied preclinically.

Objectives: Our pilot study investigated the association between region-specific myocardial tissue temperature and tissue salvage using a novel tri-lumen cooling catheter to provide rapid localized cooling directly to the heart in an open-chest porcine model of ischemia-reperfusion.
Background: Therapeutic hypothermia remains a promising strategy to limit reperfusion injury following myocardial ischemia.
Methods: Large swine underwent 60 min of coronary occlusion followed by 3 hr of reperfusion.
Introduction: The neuroprotective benefit of therapeutic hypothermia (TH) has been demonstrated, but systemic side effects and time required to achieve effective TH in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) care limits clinical use. We investigate rapid and localized cooling using a novel insulated catheter in an ischemia-reperfusion model.
Methods: In phase I (n=4), cold saline was delivered to the canine internal carotid artery via an insulated catheter.
Background: Using data from syndromic surveillance, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) identified an increase in the number of emergency department (ED) visits related to synthetic cannabinoids. Syndromic surveillance data were used to target community-level interventions and assess the real-time impact of control measures in reducing synthetic cannabinoid ("K2")-related morbidity.
Methods: From April 2015 through September 2015, DOHMH implemented 3 separate interventions to reduce K2-related morbidity by limiting the availability of K2 products.
