A 48-year-old man with history of recent travel to central Mexico and immunosuppression sought treatment with a 1-month-long history of progressive headache, fatigue, word-finding difficulties, and night sweats. The patient had a history of end-stage renal disease; he had undergone a kidney transplantation 7 years prior with good graft function with immunosuppression with tacrolimus, everolimus, and low-dose prednisone. At an outside hospital, he recently had been treated with empiric antibiotics for meningitis, but these were discontinued given the low suspicion for a bacterial cause.

Adipose tissue macrophages (ATMs) influence obesity-associated metabolic dysfunction, but the mechanisms by which they do so are not well understood. We show that miR-6236 is a bona fide miRNA that is secreted by ATMs during obesity. Global or myeloid cell-specific deletion of miR-6236 aggravates obesity-associated adipose tissue insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and hyperlipidemia.

Bronchial premalignant lesions (PMLs) precede the development of invasive lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), posing a significant challenge in distinguishing those likely to advance to LUSC from those that might regress without intervention. This study followed a novel computational approach, the Graph Perceiver Network, leveraging hematoxylin and eosin-stained whole slide images to stratify endobronchial biopsies of PMLs across a spectrum from normal to tumor lung tissues. The Graph Perceiver Network outperformed existing frameworks in classification accuracy predicting LUSC, lung adenocarcinoma, and nontumor lung tissue on The Cancer Genome Atlas and Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium datasets containing lung resection tissues while efficiently generating pathologist-aligned, class-specific heatmaps.

The phenomenon of multiple external cervical root resorption (ECRR) lesions in a single patient is rare but may have a link with the chemotherapeutic agent bleomycin. This case details an adult male with multiple ECRR lesions that developed following chemotherapy. His treatment regimen for Hodgkin's lymphoma included the chemotherapeutic antibiotic bleomycin, which has previously been linked with development of multiple ECRR lesions.

Lung cancers bearing oncogenically-mutated EGFR represent a significant fraction of lung adenocarcinomas (LUADs) for which EGFR-targeting tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) provide a highly effective therapeutic approach. Background: Mutations in the alpha-sarcoglycan gene cause limb-girdle muscular dystrophy 2D, an autosomal recessive muscle wasting disorder primarily affecting the muscles of the shoulder and pelvic girdles. To date, no previous study has collated all known mutations in alpha-sarcoglycan and mapped these to the associated phenotypes.
