Objective: Prolonged use of oral devices as a substitute for traditional treatments has been studied in relation to the dental and skeletal changes associated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA), which is a sleep-breathing disorder.

Materials And Methods: A review of articles indexed in PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Sciences, and CINHAL databases in September 2022 based on MeSH-based keywords with "dental and skeletal" and "oral appliance" and "obstructive sleep apnea" was examined to ensure that the keywords alone or cross-linked, depending on which base of the searched data, were used. 16 articles out of 289 articles were included in the research, and 273 articles were excluded due to lack of study.

The aim of this paper is to describe the figure of the Italian surgeon Iginio Tansini (1855-1943), who was full professor of surgery and director of the Department of Surgery at the University of Pavia (1903-1931). In that period, he modernized the School of Surgery founded by Antonio Scarpa (1752-1832) in the previous century; he introduced the experimental method in the discipline. One of his major contributions was an innovative technique of mastectomy followed by plastic reconstruction with myocutaneous flap.

Objectives: The production of fixed partial dentures (FPDs) induces complex residual stress profiles, due to both the thermal expansion coefficient mismatch between the veneering ceramic and the framework and to the thermal gradients occurring during the final cooling. Detailed knowledge of residual stress distributions in the veneering ceramics is important to understand the interface phenomena with the framework and the consequences of the different firing systems. The first objective of this study was to analyse the residual stress distribution in heat-pressed ceramic on zirconia core with micrometer spatial resolution, with also a focus on the stress at the interface versus porcelain-fused-to-metal samples.

The case of an IgAk myeloma showed the following common features with more than a hundred of patients described by the literature: osteonecrosis of the jaws, prolonged administration of bisphosphonates due to neoplastic skeletal lesions, antitumoral therapies and recent dental surgery. The antiangiogenetic effects of bisphosphonates can have an important pathogenetic role and a general dental treatment should be completed before the start of bisphosphonate administration.

Forensic dentistry has been shown to be of fundamental importance in medico-legal investigations aimed at identifying human remains involving high temperature incidents because dental remains and prosthetic devices are resistant to quite high thermal change. In this project we studied teeth containing class I and V amalgam and composite fillings and compared them to un-restored teeth when exposed to high temperatures. Twenty five un-restored teeth, 25 teeth with class I amalgam restorations, 25 teeth with class V amalgam restorations and 25 teeth with class I composite fillings were placed in a furnace and heated at a rate of 30 degrees C/min.

The radiographic evaluation of dental remains represents a significant aspect in the forensic identification process, particularly after an exposure to fire. The aim of this "in vitro" study was to evaluate the radiographic features of unrestored, endodontically treated and restored teeth after exposure to an experimental range of high temperatures. Ninety human teeth were divided into two groups: (1) unrestored teeth, as a control group and (2) teeth endodontically treated (condensation technique) and restored with amalgam or composite fillings.

In a "mafia" crime case, a magistrate asked us whether it is possible to destroy a cadaver by immersing it in acids, and would it be possible to identify any residues. The aim of this study was to observe the behavior of teeth exposed to four kinds of acid solutions. The teeth were placed in plastic containers with 25 mL of acid and observed.

In large scale disasters associated with fire the damage caused by heat can make medico-legal identification of human remains difficult. Teeth, restorations and prostheses, all of which are resistant to even quite high temperatures can be used as aids in the identification process. Background: This study is an evaluation and a comparison assessment of ten different types of orthodontics elastomeric chains in an in vitro situation simulating the clinical therapy for the canine tooth distalisation.

Methods: We designed and produced two custom made systems in order to simulate the clinical movement and to measure the elastic recovery. The first device was suitable to activate the elastomeric chains up to 100% of its extension and successively to reduce this extension through the time, as it happens during the clinical practice.
