Approximately 10.0% of tumors occurs in the lower urinary tract and morbidity and lethality are constantly on the rise. Over 90% of such tumors registered in Europe and the USA is transitional cell carcinoma.

The study of the health status of specific population groups provided the approbation results for the recommended biochemical indicators.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe results of a comparative biochemical and electron-microscopic study of membrane-injuring effect of N-nitrosodimethylamine--a chemical carcinogen widespread in the environment are reviewed. It has been established that in vivo and in vitro membrane-injuring effect of nitrosodimethylamine is characterized by reduced activity of membrane-bound enzymes of endoplasmic reticulum (UDP-glucuronyltransferase and glucose-6-phosphatase) accompanied by alterations in functional morphology of cells and intracellular structure.

Similar changes in feeding and avoidance reaction in spite of the way of substance P administration (30 mgk/kg intravenously or 14,8 nmol intraventricular) were found in rabbits with electrodes implanted in various limbic-midbrain structures. Feeding was found to be more sensitive to substance P administration, as it was shown by the decrease of excitability of the hypothalamic "feeding center" and abolishing of the inhibitory and facilitatory effects on this center from the dorsal hippocampus and the midbrain reticular formation, correspondingly. New cortical-subcortical integration under substance P was presented in new characteristics of EEG activity in neocortical areas, both background and in response to stimulation of various limbic-midbrain structures.

Evaluation of the membrane-damaging effect taking into account the stage of labilization of biomembranes (according to severity of manifestation) and compensatory defence reactions at the moleculo-cellular level (alveolar macrophages) is recommended. Classification of biochemical methods (according to priority) is proposed for the evaluation of early functional changes during the examination of the health state of the population in dependence on the effect of environmental factors.

A single intravenous administration of ethanol (0.5 g/kg) to rabbits had different effects on the excitability of feeding and defensive motivational centers of the lateral and ventromedial hypothalamus. Ethanol abolished both inhibitory effects of the dorsal hippocampus and facilitatory action of the midbrain reticular formation on alimentary and defensive motivations.

It has been demonstrated that the pyrimidine derivative may prevent the unfavourable metabolic effects occurring at the cellular level (alveolar macrophages of the lungs) and cell organelles (lysosomes and endoplasmic network) in the early stages of the membrane-damaging action of nitrosodimethylamine.

Activities of organelle-specific enzymes were estimated in mitochondria (malate dehydrogenase, glutamate dehydrogenase, H + ATPase) and in endoplasmic reticulum (inosine-5-diphosphatase) of liver, kidney tissues and blood serum of rats, which were born after the influence of embryotoxic effectors. Correlation was found in alterations of the patterns studied.
