Strain I54 is a newly identified, rod-shaped, non-motile bacterium found in a freshwater river in Iksan, South Korea, classified in the genus Soonwooa of the Flavobacteriaceae family.
Genetic analysis revealed a 97.5% similarity to Soonwooa buanensis, indicating its close relation to this known species.
The strain's unique fatty acid profile and polar lipids, along with a specific genomic composition, led to the proposal of a new species name, Soonwooapurpurea sp. nov., with the type strain designated as I54.
