Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the survival outcomes of acute pancreatitis patients based on the timing of their diagnosis—pre-pandemic, during the pandemic, and with confirmed COVID-19 infection.
  • A multicentric, retrospective case-control study matched 28 patients with both SARS-CoV-2 and acute pancreatitis against two groups of 56 patients with acute pancreatitis, one from before the pandemic and one during it.
  • Findings revealed that patients with both conditions faced a six-fold higher risk of death compared to pre-pandemic cases, and pandemic-related delays in care increased the death risk three-fold for those with acute pancreatitis during the pandemic.

Retroperitoneal sarcomas are rare malignant tumors, which are developing from mesenchymal stem cells residing in muscle, fat, and connective tissues. Underlying the rarity of this kind of tumors in general population, the aim of this paper is to present three cases of retroperitoneal sarcomas operated in Surgical Department of Military Hospital of Craiova (a retroperitoneal liposarcoma, a dedifferentiated liposarcoma and a malignant fibrous histiocytoma). From clinical point of view, we note the poverty of symptoms and non-specificity of these and a great tolerability of retroperitoneal space that offers the possibility for a great development of the tumor.
