A remission defined by the possibility of temporarily discontinuing insulin therapy while blood glucose remains normal is not infrequently observed after intensive insulin therapy in newly diagnosed acute type I diabetes in the South of France. In order to analyze possible factors of such a remission, 47 newly diagnosed ketotic diabetics under 35 years of age and of Caucasian origin were enrolled in a prospective study. They were given continuous s.

These methods enable the surgeon to direct his attention to obtaining the ideal ridge form for denture construction. To this end, characteristics and patterns of resorption as well as a cephalometric method of assessment are presented.

110 patients with ruptured aneurysms were operated on within 4 to 96 hours after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Clinical grades (Hunt) were: 1-2-3 in 93 cases and 4-5 in 17 cases. Among the patients grades 1-2-3, 81% had a good out come without any neurological abnormality, among the patients graded 4-5, only 27% had a fair out come.

Three successive, different operative techniques were used: macular silastic sponge, vitrectomy plus internal tamponade by silicone oil, vitrectomy plus internal tamponade by air or by a mixture of air 60% and SF6 40%. Macular sponges obtained a good rate of retinal reattachment (83.

The simplified acute physiology score (SAPS) was evaluated in 679 consecutive patients admitted to eight multidisciplinary referral ICUs in France. Surgery accounted for 40% of admissions.

The effect of HLA-A, B and DR matching was only found to be significantly beneficial to graft survival in the group of 289 presensitized recipients: 70% and 43% graft survival at two years in the case of best-matched (4-6 HLA-A, B, and DR) identities versus mismatched (0 and 1 HLA-A, B, and DR) identities, respectively (P = 0.05).

Induction by murine alpha interferon of the expression of class I molecules was required to obtain unambiguous identification of these molecules which appear serologically identical to the HLA-B7 and HLA-AW24 molecules expressed at the surface of human peripheral blood lymphocytes of 20 unrelated individuals. Analysis of the transformed cells with 8 different anti-HLA class I monoclonal antibodies results in the definition of 3 separate clusters of antigenic determinants shared by all HLA class I molecules.

The comparison group included 60 families among whom 39 had HLA typing for paternity exclusion and 21 had been previously selected for a segregation study. Both groups consisted of nonconsanguineous Caucasians from the same geographical area.

A group of thirty-one female denture patients who underwent surgical reconstruction of their deficient residual ridges with ridge extension and skin graft or ridge augmentation with bone graft were evaluated with regard to their masticatory function before surgery, then at 8 months and 12 months post-operative with their new dentures. Two objectives tests of masticatory efficiency were used. The masticatory efficiency index (MEI), based on the size of chewed almond particles, determined the potential capacity of patients to masticate while the masticatory performance (MP) based on the time required to masticate food before swallowing assessed the individual ability of each patient to chew food.

The radiographic images obtained generally represent oblique projections which have little in common with classic anatomical diagrams. An analysis of 60 pancreatographic investigations considered normal (out of a series of 400 investigations made on various diseases of the pancreas) has been followed by a comparison between these radiographic results obtained in vivo with diverse anatomical classifications in current use.
