Immunohistochemical and histochemical staining were performed on Alzheimer's diseased brain tissue obtained at autopsy. The iron-regulatory proteins transferrin and ferritin as well as iron are, in general, found predominantly in oligodendrocytes similar to that previously reported for normal brain tissue. However, in the vicinity of senile plaques, the staining pattern is altered for both proteins and iron.

The effect of tranexamic acid (TXA) on platelet function was examined in 37 patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms. TXA was administered in a double-blind, placebo controlled manner to 37 patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms. TXA was given to 17 patients in a dose of 9 g/24 hours, to another 6 patients in a dose of 6 g/24 hours; 14 patients were given a placebo.

Historically, a textile's ability to protect against ultraviolet radiation (UVR)-induced erythema has been based on its UVR transmission. However, due to the nonuniformity of the fabric structure of a textile and its resultant nonuniform transmission, the above prediction may not hold. The fabric protection factors (FPF) of 5 metal meshes, to simulate the weave pattern and yarn dimensions of typical fabrics, and 6 textiles with variable construction (woven and knitted), fibre type and dye were determined using a spectrophotometric assay and human skin testing.

Two age groups were examined: a middle-aged group (28-49 years), and an older group (60-90 years). Transferrin, ferritin, and iron are found throughout all brain regions examined, predominantly in the perikaryal cytoplasm of cells that are small and round, fitting the description of oligodendrocytes.

A genetic mutant strain of rats known as myelin deficient rats is examined in the present study because their number of oligodendrocytes is decreased and those oligodendrocytes present are structurally abnormal. The levels of iron in the liver (major site of iron storage) and in the pons-cerebellum did not differ statistically between the myelin deficient rats and the littermate control rats, whereas only half of the iron normally found in the cerebrum-midbrain was present in the myelin deficient rat.

Brain oedema was maximal 24 hrs, remained high for 3 days, and was resolved by 4 weeks. These changes in water content were accompanied by a parallel increase in sodium and decrease in potassium, however, the increase in sodium always exceeded the decrease in potassium so that there was a net gain in brain cations.

They reviewed the charts of 50 randomly selected patients to determine actual costs of catheterization and bypass grafting. Four patients had single-vessel disease, 12 double- and 34 triple-vessel disease and 13 had moderate to severe impairment of ventricular function.

Using the leucocyte migration inhibition test and double diffusion in agar gel, cross-reactivity between the antigens was evident, though neither antigen induced significant proteinuria or nephritis in the dosages given.
