In this editorial we comment on the interesting article by Liu . The topic of discussion is the need for a cost-effective and easy-to-use scoring system for predicting the prognosis of colorectal cancer patients. In this context, nutritional assessment plays a crucial role in the multimodal evaluation of patients.

Methods: All consecutive newly diagnosed CRC patients referred to 11 Italian Oncology Departments between March and December 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 were enrolled. Access rate, demographics, diagnostic-therapeutic temporal intervals, and first-line progression-free survival (PFS) and OS among metastatic patients were assessed.
Cancer is currently one of the biggest public health challenges worldwide, ranking as the second leading cause of death globally. To date, strong epidemiological associations have been demonstrated between unhealthy lifestyles and eating habits, i.e.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively collected baseline clinicopathological characteristics including circulating lipid profile (total cholesterol [TC], triglycerides [TG], low-density lipoproteins [LDL], high-density lipoproteins [HDL]) of patients with consecutive solid cancer treated with ICIs, and we investigated their role in predicting clinical outcomes.
Results: At a median follow-up of 32.
Background: KRAS is commonly mutated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, the prognostic and predictive impact of each G12 substitution has not been fully elucidated. The approval of specific G12C inhibitors has modified the idea of KRAS "undruggability", and although the first-line standard consists of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) with or without chemotherapy, as suggested at ASCO 2022, the outcome in KRAS-mutated population is still controversial.
Methods: We retrospectively described the clinical and pathological characteristics of a homogeneous G12 mutated cohort of 219 patients treated in four Italian oncologic units.
Purpose: Breast cancer (BC) patients' (pts) management was affected by a global reorganization after Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Our multicenter study aimed to assess the impact of COVID-19 on access to diagnosis, staging and treatment for BC pts compared to pre-pandemic.
Methods: Medical records of all consecutive newly diagnosed BC pts referred to 6 Italian Institutions between March and December 2020 were assessed.
Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has triggered the disruption of health care on a global scale. With Italy tangled up in the pandemic response, oncology care has been largely diverted and cancer screenings suspended. Our multicenter Italian study aimed to evaluate whether COVID-19 has impacted access to diagnosis, staging, and treatment for patients newly diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC), compared with pre-pandemic time.

Lung cancer (LC) patients (pts) represent a vulnerable population highly affected by the pandemic. This multicenter Italian study aimed to evaluate whether the COVID-19 outbreak had an impact on access to cancer diagnosis and treatment of LC pts compared with pre-pandemic time.

Furthermore, Cav-1 is critical for the uptake of albumin as well as nab-paclitaxel in PDAC cells. Here, we investigated the prognostic impact of Cav-1 expression in a cohort of 39 metastatic PDAC patients treated with different first-line chemotherapy regimens.

To further assess the prognostic and predictive value of baseline GRIm-Score (GRImT0) in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (aNSCLC) patients, we separately investigated two cohorts of patients treated with first-line pembrolizumab or chemotherapy. We also investigated whether GRIm-Score at 45 days since treatment initiation (GRImT1) and GRIm-Score difference between the two timepoints may better predict clinical outcomes (GRImΔ = GRImT0 - GRImT1).

Inflammation has been demonstrated to play a key role both in PDAC initiation and progression and several inflammation-based prognostic scores have been investigated in a wide range of malignancies. We compared the most analyzed inflammation-based prognostic scores in order to establish their potential impact on prediction of the outcome in advanced PDAC patients.

Together with the consolidation of tumor-board experience in clinical practice, certain aspects have emerged as controversial and a source of current debate. In this systematic literature review, we focused our attention on the impact of multidisciplinary tumor boards, assessing benefits and limitations as a result of the dissemination of such approaches.

Many causes are listed, but syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) is certainly the most relevant, mainly in oncological and hospitalized patients. In this review, the pathophysiological and clinical aspects are described in detail.

Most patients who receive at least 3-4 months of treatment suffer from peripheral sensory neurotoxicity (PSN), characterised by the loss or impairment of tactile and proprioceptive sensory function. Motor impairment, such as muscle weakness or palsy, has been rarely described, and the physiopathology of PSN, as well as the motor symptoms due to oxaliplatin-based treatment, are not adequately understood.

Beyond surgical resection, which is beneficial for only a small proportion of patients, current strategies for treating patients with BTCs include chemotherapy, as a single agent or combination regimens, in the adjuvant and palliative setting. Increased characterisation of the molecular landscape of these tumours has facilitated the identification of molecular vulnerabilities, such as IDH mutations and FGFR fusions, that can be exploited for the treatment of BTC patients.

However, how to exploit the predictive power of cfDNA as a liquid biopsy in the clinic remains unclear. RAS pathway aberrations can be tracked in cfDNA to monitor resistance to anti-EGFR monoclonal antibodies in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

Digital droplet (dd)PCR was used to investigate KRAS/BRAF mutations in ctDNA from baseline blood samples of 97 LARC patients who were treated with CAPOX followed by chemoradiotherapy, surgery and adjuvant CAPOX ± cetuximab in a randomised phase II trial. KRAS mutation in G12D, G12V or G13D was detected in the ctDNA of 43% and 35% of patients with tumours that were mutant and wild-type for these hotspot mutations, respectively, according to standard PCR-based analyses on tissue.

The evolutionary trajectory of cancers can be defined using phylogenetic approaches but lack of chronological references makes dating the exact onset of tumours very challenging.
Patients And Methods: Here, we describe the case of a colorectal cancer (CRC) patient presenting with synchronous lung metastasis and metachronous thyroid, chest wall and urinary tract metastases over the course of 5 years.
