Objectives: Idiopathic subglottic stenosis (ISS) is an airway stricture between larynx and trachea, within 1 cm from the vocal cords. Resection-reconstruction present technical issues because of the need to resect the anterior portion of the cricoid cartilage, but not the posterior plate beyond which the recurrent laryngeal nerves access the vocal cords. The main surgical challenge consists of the minute airway calibre short below the cords, ensuing after the resection.

Objective: The large number of patients with COVID-19 subjected to prolonged invasive mechanical ventilation has been expected to result in a significant increase in tracheal stenosis in the next years. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare postoperative outcomes of patients who survived COVID-19 critical illness and underwent tracheal resection for postintubation/posttracheostomy tracheal stenosis with those of non-COVID-19 patients.

Methods: It was single-center, retrospective study.

Treatment of Schatzker Type III Tibial Plateau Fractures: Report of an Alternative, Percutaneous Technique and Brief Review of the Literature.

Schatzker III tibial plateau fractures (TPF) reduction and stabilization still represents a challenging procedure. We present an alternative, percutaneous surgical technique. With an antero-medial transverse incision at the level of the tibial metaphysis, under fluoroscopic control, an osteotome is advanced from medial to lateral, under the depressed fragments, reducing the articular surface of the lateral TP anatomically, without creating a significant void and preserving the lateral wall.

Prognostic Factors of Non-Predominant-Lepidic Lung Adenocarcinoma Presenting as Ground Glass Opacity: Results of a Multicenter Study.

This study aims to define the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of non-predominant lepidic invasive adenocarcinoma presenting as Ground Glass Opacity (GGO) nodules. The goal is to assess statistical relationships between histology, tumor size, location, and the incidence of relapse and lymph node dissemination. A retrospective multicenter study was conducted, including patients with GGO observed on CT scans between 2003 and 2021.

Biomechanical Property and Biocompatibility of a New Silicone Rubber Nasal Retainer (Nostriloo).

Nasal retainers have been utilized to maintain the position of the nose after primary rhinoplasty in cleft lip patients. However, commercial nasal retainers made from silicone are quite expensive. To address this issue, the authors designed an alternative nasal retainer that is affordable, safe, and has similar biomechanical and biocompatibility properties to other commercial nasal retainers.

Biomarkers for Salvage Therapy in Testicular Germ Cell Tumors.

The outcome of metastatic testicular germ cell tumor patients has been dramatically improved by cisplatin-based chemotherapy combinations. However, up to 30% of patients with advanced disease relapse after first-line therapy and require salvage regimens, which include treatments with conventional-dose chemotherapy or high-dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplantation. For these patients, prognosis estimation represents an essential step in the choice of medical treatment but still remains a complex challenge.

Challenges in Managing Post-Radiation TMJ Pseudoankylosis.

This study demonstrates the outcomes of post-radiation temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pseudoankylosis management and its challenges. A rare maxillary squamous cell carcinoma was treated with subtotal maxillary resection. Subsequent radiation therapy, failure of free flap reconstruction, and 1 year of jaw hypomobility instigated TMJ pseudoankylosis with a maximal mouth opening (MMO) of less than 5 mm.

Methods: A systematic search was performed through 8 databases for studies on traditional burn first aid published in the 21st century. Data regarding study demographics, burn first aid, first aid materials, water irrigation, and source of knowledge were summarized, and the use of each material was discussed.

Subungual Metastasis from Ovarian Cancer: Case Report and Brief Review of the Literature.

Introduction: Visceral solid cancers can metastasize in almost any organ, including the skin and its appendages.

Case Presentation: We report here the case of a 19-year-old Caucasian girl carrying a diagnosis of malignant germ cell tumor of the ovary, with pulmonary and brain metastases, that developed a painful red-violaceous subungual papule of the 4th finger of the left hand, associated with an over-curvature of the nail plate. Dermoscopy was characterized initially by different shades of pink and red, while after few weeks, it showed black pigmentation due to subcorneal hematomas, hemorrhagic crusts, and a rainbow pattern.

Bilateral Cleft Lip and Palate in Ring Chromosome 7 Syndrome: A Case Report and Review of Clinical Characteristics.

This report presents a case of ring chromosome 7 syndrome with bilateral cleft lip and palate. A four-year-old boy presented with bilateral cleft lip and palate, microcephaly, clenched toes, cafe-au-lait spots, a history of epilepsy, and severe intellectual disability. Genetic karyotyping revealed 46 XY r(7) (p22q36).

The impact of early surgical treatment of tracheal stenosis on neurorehabilitation outcome in patients with severe acquired brain injury.

Introduction: Acquired tracheal stenosis (TS) is a potentially life-threatening condition following prolonged intubation and/or tracheostomy in adult patients with severe Acquired Brain Injury (sABI), requiring a tracheal resection and reconstruction.

Methods: We included 38 sABI adult patients with TS, admitted at a post-acute Neurorehabilitation Hospital. Disability Rating Scale (DRS) and other functional assessment measures were recorded at admission (t), before TS surgical treatment (t), and at discharge (t).

Reconstruction of the pulmonary artery (PA) associated with lobectomy for the radical resection of lung cancer has been progressively gaining diffusion in lung cancer surgery as a safe and effective therapeutic option that may allow radical resection when lobectomy is not technically feasible, avoiding pneumonectomy. There are some controversial aspects concerning the intraoperative and perioperative management of a sleeve resection with PA reconstruction that may influence the outcome. In the present article, the authors have analyzed some of the main technical and oncological aspects to take stock of what they have learned from their lung-sparing operations experience over time.

These signals propagate from the extracellular matrix to the nucleus with different well known physical connections, but how the mechanical signals are transduced into biochemical ones remains an open challenge.
