Bacterial biofilms are one of the most relevant drivers of chronic and recurrent infections and a significant healthcare problem. Biofilms were formed by cross-linking of hydrophobic extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), such as proteins, polysaccharides, and eDNA, which were synthesized by bacteria themselves after adhesion and colonization on biological surfaces. They had the characteristics of dense structure and low drug permeability, leading to tolerance and resistance of biofilms to antibiotics and to host responses.

Zinc-air batteries (ZABs) have attracted considerable attention for their high energy density, safety, low noise, and eco-friendliness. However, the capacity of mechanically rechargeable ZABs was limited by the cumbersome procedure for replacing the zinc anode, while electrically rechargeable ZABs suffer from issues including low depth of discharge, zinc dendrite and dead zinc formation, and sluggish oxygen evolution reaction, etc. To address these issues, we report a hybrid redox-mediated zinc-air fuel cell (HRM-ZAFC) utilizing 7,8-dihydroxyphenazine-2-sulfonic acid (DHPS) as the anolyte redox mediator, which shifts the zinc oxidation reaction from the electrode surface to a separate fuel tank.

The existing biomarkers are insufficient for predicting the prognosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) is a precursor to PDAC; therefore, identifying biomarkers from differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of PDAC and IPMN is a new and reliable strategy for predicting the prognosis of PDAC. In this study, four datasets were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and standardized using the R package 'limma.

Article Synopsis
  • Geospatial smartphone applications are being used to gather community responses for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), but many activations may involve patients who aren’t actually experiencing cardiac arrest.
  • A 3-year study in four U.S. communities tracked cases where this technology was activated for suspected OHCA, revealing that over half of the 1,023 non-arrest patients had various medical conditions like syncope and seizures.
  • Common EMS interventions included placing IV lines and administering naloxone, suggesting that these non-arrest conditions could benefit from quicker care response times.
