ELABELA (ELA), a 32-residue hormone peptide abundantly expressed in adult kidneys, has been identified as a novel endogenous ligand for APJ/Apelin receptor. In DOCA/salt-treated rats, the mRNA level of ELA greatly decreased in the renal medulla.
