The morphology and kinetics of the crystal growth front have been poorly explored at the particle level. Here, we experimentally observe the crystal growth front in liquid with single-particle kinetics using colloid systems and reveal a surface layer of polymorphic crystal near the solid-solid transition when the two crystals form a low-energy coherent interface. The thickness of the surface crystal can exceed 50 particles and grows logarithmically with the temperature as approaching the solid-solid transition which follows premelting theory.

Here, we analyzed 112 CSP1-3 metagenome-assembled genomes and showed they are likely facultative anaerobes, with 3 of 5 families encoding autotrophy through the reductive glycine pathway (RGP), Wood-Ljungdahl pathway (WLP) or Calvin-Benson-Bassham (CBB), with hydrogen or sulfide as electron donors. Chemoautotrophic enrichments from hot spring sediments and fluorescence hybridization revealed enrichment of six CSP1-3 genera, and both transcribed genes and DNA-stable isotope probing were consistent with proposed chemoautotrophic metabolisms.

Methods: Data came from the Shanghai, China and Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo sites of the Global Early Adolescent Study. Data were collected three times over approximately two years: prior to the pandemic (T1) and during the pandemic (T2, T3).
Purpose: This study explores whether economic instability or food insecurity moderates the changes in emotional abuse and neglect over time.
Methods: We used data from the Global Early Adolescent Study, a longitudinal study among adolescents ages 13-18 years (10-14 during pre-COVID-19 round) from poor urban communities in China (n = 387), the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) (n = 285), Indonesia (n = 400), and Malawi (n = 320). Data were collected before (2017 to March 2020) and during the pandemic (June to November 2020).

Detecting small moving objects in complex backgrounds from an overhead perspective is a highly challenging task for machine vision systems. As an inspiration from nature, the avian visual system is capable of processing motion information in various complex aerial scenes, and the Retina-OT-Rt visual circuit of birds is highly sensitive to capturing the motion information of small objects from high altitudes.
