Purpose: To evaluate the anterior segment in children with an R124L mutation corneal dystrophy (CD) using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) and in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM).

Methods: We investigated a family with prevalent CD and an R124L mutation; 59 individuals (14 patients; 6 male and 8 female, aged 2-69 years, 6 children, 2:4 male: female ratio) from four generations were included. We observed corneal lesions through ophthalmologic examinations, AS-OCT, and IVCM.

Bile acids (BAs) are classically known to play a vital role in the metabolism of lipids and in absorption. It is now well established that BAs act as signaling molecules, activating different receptors (such as farnesoid X receptor, vitamin D receptor, Takeda G-protein-coupled receptor 5, sphingosine-1-phosphate, muscarinic receptors, and big potassium channels) and participating in the regulation of energy homeostasis and lipid and glucose metabolism. We report the case of a 26-year-old man under treatment with the antidepressant drugs olanzapine and buspirone, which are associated with anticholinergic effects, in whom an implantable collamer lens (ICL) became spontaneously dislocated. ICL dislocation and pupil capture occurred 10 months postoperatively. The lens was successfully repositioned.
