Soil compaction is a major environmental problem that affects plant growth and development. In this study, to further our understanding of its negative effects on plant growth, we investigated the effects of soil compaction on the growth, mineral absorption, and activities of key respiratory enzymes in soybean seedlings. We found that moderate-level soil compaction increased the activities of pyruvate kinase and phosphofructokinase in soybean seedling roots, enhancing the accumulation of P, K, Mg, Ca, and other elements.
