Article Synopsis
  • Inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) caused by fowl adenovirus serotype 8b (FAdV-8b) is a significant disease affecting poultry, leading to substantial industry losses globally.
  • A specific strain, CH/SDQD/2021, isolated from infected chickens in China, has a complete genome of 44,000 bp and shows genetic similarities to other strains.
  • This study developed a reverse genetic system for FAdV-8b, allowing insertion of foreign genes like ZsGreen, which may aid in gene function research and the creation of multivalent vaccines.

Fowl adenovirus serotype 11 (FAdV-11) is one of the main causative agents of inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) in broilers. Outbreaks of FAdV-11-related IBH have been increasingly reported in China and many other geographical areas worldwide. However, the critical virulence factors of FAdV-11 remain uncertain due to the lack of technical platforms for efficient manipulation of FAdV-11 genome.
