Ten Cantonese-speaking raters and ten Mandarin-speaking raters were selected to assess forty Cantonese-accented and forty Mandarin-accented candidates' oral performance in the retelling task of the Computer-based English Listening and Speaking Test (CELST). Recent evidence suggests that SNARE fusion machinery play critical roles in postsynaptic neurotransmitter receptor trafficking, which is essential for synaptic plasticity. However, the key SNAREs involved remain highly controversial; syntaxin-3 and syntaxin-4 are leading candidates for the syntaxin isoform underlying postsynaptic plasticity. Trafficking or delivery of neurotransmitter receptors on postsynaptic membranes is critical for basal neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity. Importantly, dysfunction of such postsynaptic receptor trafficking can lead to severe brain diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease, autism spectrum disorder, and intellectual disability, yet underlying mechanisms remain elusive.
