Cisplatin (DDP) is widely used in the treatment of cancer as a chemotherapeutic drug. However, its severe nephrotoxicity limits the extensive application of cisplatin, which is characterized by injury and apoptosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. This study aimed to reveal the protective effect and its underlying mechanism of Indole-3-carboxaldehyde (IC) against DDP-induced AKI in mice and NRK-52E cells pretreated with PKA antagonist (H-89).

The improvement in tensile strength and tensile ductility was attributed to the self-cementing properties of RFA as well as the pozzolanic reaction between calcined clay and cement. Carbonate aluminates were also generated owing to the reaction between calcium carbonate in limestone and the aluminates in both calcined clay and cement.

The usage of SRCA significantly improves the mechanical performance of concrete. The strength is improved, and the failure mode of concrete cylinders is also remarkably altered.

The complicated intrinsic connection between specific ROS/RSS needs to be further explored. Herein, a novel fluorescent probe (MB-NAP-N) with longer emission wavelength has been rationally designed and synthesized based on the conjugation of the methylene blue moiety and the naphthalimide moiety for the detection of hypochlorous acid (HClO) and hydrogen sulfide (HS).

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that negatively regulate target mRNAs at the post-transcriptional level. Increasing evidence shows the involvement of miRNAs in diverse biological processes. miR-302/367 cluster is highly conserved among vertebrates and made up of five members, including miR-367, miR-302a, miR-302b, miR-302c and miR-302d.

High linear energy transfer (LET) charged-particle beams, like proton and carbon ions, exhibit favourable depth-dose distributions and radiobiological enhancement over conventional low-LET photon irradiation, thereby marking a new era in high precision medicine. Tumour cells have developed multicomponent signal transduction networks known as DNA damage responses (DDRs), which initiate cell-cycle checkpoints and induce double-strand break (DSB) repairs in the nucleus by nonhomologous end joining or homologous recombination pathways, to manage ionising radiation (IR)-induced DNA lesions.

The aim of this study was to explore the Wnt/β‑catenin pathway in regulating carbon ion (12C6+) radiation‑induced cellular toxicity. HLY78 is a Wnt‑specific small molecular modulator, whose effects on 12C6+ radiation‑induced damage are mostly unknown.

The probe displays low toxicity and features high sensitivity and fast response towards VDPs. A drastic loss of VDPs in a Parkinson's model was disclosed by AC-green, linking the fluctuation of VDP levels to Parkinson's disease for the first time.

Cervical cancer is the second most common malignant tumour threatening women's health. In recent years, heavy-ion beam therapy is becoming a newly emerging therapeutic mean of cancer; however, radio-resistance and radiation-induced damage constitute the main obstacles for curative treatment of cervical cancer. Therefore, to identify the radiosensitizers is essential.

Radiotherapy (RT) is a common treatment for head and neck cancers, but central nervous system function can be impaired by clinical radiation doses. This experimental study evaluated the protective efficacy of the anti-hyperglycaemic/anti-neoplastic agent phenformin against radiation-induced developmental toxicity in zebrafish embryos. Zebrafish embryos pre-treated with 25 μM phenformin 1 h before x-ray irradiation were compared to irradiation-only embryos for mortality, hatching rate, morphology, spontaneous movement, heart beat, larval swimming, activities of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), malondialdehyde content (MDA, a by-product of membrane lipid oxidation), and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity.

Cellular quiescence (G0) is a sleep-like cellular state that allows cells to maintain the ability to re-enter and exit the proliferative cycle. Quiescent cancer cells are considered a therapeutic challenge since they are often resistant to conventional chemoradiotherapy resulting in disease progression and relapse. To date, the majority of published studies have focused on identifying molecules that target proliferating tumor cells while limited information is available on methods to target quiescent cancer cells.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a major cause of end-stage renal disease throughout the world; until now there is no specific drug available. In this work, we use herba artemisiae capillaris extract (HACE) to alleviate renal fibrosis characterized by the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) in rats, aiming to investigate the protective effect of the HACE on DN. We found that the intragastric treatment of high-dose HACE could reverse the effect of streptozotocin not only to decrease the level of blood glucose and blood lipid in different degree but also further to improve renal functions.
