In late 2020, an outbreak of Tembusu virus (TMUV)-associated disease occurred in a 45-day-old white Roman geese flock in Taiwan. Here, we present the identification and isolation of a novel goose-origin TMUV strain designated as NTU/C225/2020. The virus was successfully isolated using minimal-pathogen-free duck embryos.

Pigeon paramyxovirus-1 (PPMV-1), a genetic variant of avian paramyxovirus-1 (APMV-1), has been identified in Columbiformes and is the primary cause of diseases in captive and free-ranging pigeons. However, it has also been reported that PPMV-1 can infect chickens naturally and experimentally, thus posing a potential threat to the poultry industry. This study investigated a lethal outbreak of paramyxovirus infection that occurred among 16 oriental turtle doves (Streptopelia orientalis) in a walk-in aviary at a zoo from March to April 2021.

New onset or exacerbation of psoriasis vulgaris has been reported in a small number of patients after interferon (IFN)-α therapy. Herein, we report a case of generalized flare of pustular psoriasis induced by PEGylated IFN-α2b (PEG-IFN-α2b) in a 59-year-old woman with a 15-year history of pustular psoriasis and chronic hepatitis C. Interferon-α therapy was discontinued and the rash resolved after treatment with cyclosporin and systemic methylprednisolone.

Decreased phagocytotic ability of macrophages has been reported to be associated with the severity of endometriosis, although the underlying mechanism remains uncharacterized. Expression and secretion of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 by macrophages is a means to degrade the extracellular matrix of cells that are designated for phagocytosis. Here, we describe the regulation of MMP-9 expression and activity in peritoneal macrophages of women with endometriosis.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify associated prognostic factors influencing the outcome of curative resection of rectal gastrointestinal stromal tumor.

Patients And Methods: Diagnostic immunohistochemical staining with CD34, CD117, S-100, desmin, and muscle-specific actin was performed in 46 consecutive patients with previously diagnosed rectal leiomyosarcoma who underwent curative resection from 1979 to 1999. CD44, Bcl-2, P53, and Ki-67 staining were performed on tumors rediagnosed as gastrointestinal stromal tumor for the prognostic evaluation.
