Self-propelled micro/nanomotors (MNMs) represent a groundbreaking advancement in precision drug delivery, offering potential solutions to persistent challenges such as systemic toxicity, limited bioavailability, and nonspecific distribution. By transforming various energy sources into mechanical motion, MNMs are able to autonomously navigate through complex physiological environments, facilitating targeted delivery of therapeutic agents to previously inaccessible regions. However, to achieve efficient in vivo drug delivery, biomedical MNMs must demonstrate their ability to overcome crucial physiological barriers encompassing mucosal surfaces, blood flow dynamics, vascular endothelium, and cellular membrane.

Oxidative stress is believed to play critical pathophysiological roles in ischemic brain injury, and the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) signaling pathway is recognized as the most crucial endogenous antioxidant stress damage route. Some research have demonstrated that Nrf2 play critical roles in oxidative stress after ischemic stroke, but the underlying mechanism are not fully elucidated. This study reveals that Nrf2 is modified by SUMOylation and identifies Sentrin/SUMO-specific protease 6 (SENP6) as a negative regulator of Nrf2 SUMOylation.

Purpose: We aim to detect the effects of sivelestat on renal ischemia-reperfusion associated with AKI and also explore the underlying mechanism.

Materials And Methods: Mice, aged between 8 and 12 weeks, were randomly allocated among four distinct groups, respectively normal saline sham group(C), normal saline surgery group(I), sivelestat (50 mg/kg) sham group(S), sivelestat (50 mg/kg) surgery group(SI) (n=6, each group). In the surgical groups, the renal pedicles of mice were clamped with non-traumatic micro-aneurysm clamps, resulting in ischemia of the kidneys for 45 minutes.

Article Synopsis
  • * It establishes that the ability of BCs to remain stable in the presence of organic matter varies with feedstock type, with specific critical coagulation concentrations (CCCs) indicating their stability levels.
  • * Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was found to be more effective than humic acid at preventing BC aggregation, highlighting the role of natural organic matter in enhancing biochar stability, especially when derived from certain feedstocks like miscanthus straw.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is one of the highly malignant brain tumors characterized by significant morbidity and mortality. Despite the recent advancements in the treatment of GBM, major challenges persist in achieving controlled drug delivery to tumors. The management of GBM poses considerable difficulties primarily due to unresolved issues in the blood-brain barrier (BBB)/blood-brain tumor barrier (BBTB) and GBM microenvironment.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compared robotic-assisted laparoscopic vaginectomy (RALV) and conventional laparoscopic vaginectomy (CLV) for patients with vaginal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL), finding RALV to have less blood loss, fewer complications, and shorter recovery times.
  • - Both surgical methods showed similar high rates of HPV infection regression and vaginal HSIL regression after treatment, indicating effectiveness for managing the condition.
  • - RALV was associated with significantly higher hospital costs compared to CLV, suggesting that while RALV may offer some operational advantages, it may not be the most cost-effective option.

Background: Oxidative stress is known as a hallmark of cerebral ischaemia‒reperfusion injury and it exacerbates the pathologic progression of ischaemic brain damage. Vialinin A, derived from a Chinese edible mushroom, possesses multiple pharmacological activities in cancer, Kawasaki disease, asthma and pathological scarring. Notably, vialinin A is an inhibitor of ubiquitin-specific peptidase 4 (USP4) that shows anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties.

Background: The vulnerability of hippocampal pyramidal (PY) neurons played a key role in the onset of cognitive impairment. Multiple researches revealed that neuroinflammation together with microglia activation and parvalbumin (PV) interneurons participated in the pathogenesis of cognitive dysfunction. However, the underlying mechanism was still unclear.

In this Letter, we present an experimental demonstration of downstream signaling in a 16 × 50 Gbit/s coherent passive optical network (CPON) using the code and space division multiplexing (CDM-SDM) approach. We realize optical SDM through the utilization of a 4-core weakly coupled multicore fiber (WC-MCF), enhancing the total available optical launch power at the optical line terminal (OLT). This enhancement significantly improves the power budget for CPONs that connect with a large number of optical network units (ONUs).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of vaginoplasty using acellular dermal matrix (ADM) in patients with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, focusing on anatomical and sexual function results, as well as changes in body image.
  • A total of 42 MRKH patients who underwent the procedure were compared with 30 healthy women, with measurements taken on vaginal length, sexual function, and body image before and after the operation.
  • Results showed that the MRKH patients achieved anatomical and functional outcomes comparable to healthy women, with a significant improvement in body image post-surgery, highlighting that vaginoplasty with ADM is an effective treatment option.

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) seriously affects a woman's quality of life, and the treatment complications are severe. Although new surgical treatments are being developed, the host tissue responses and safety need to be evaluated in preclinical trials. However, there is a lack of suitable animal models, as most quadrupeds exhibit different structural and pathological changes.

Background: Glioma is the most frequent primary tumor of the central nervous system. The high heterogeneity of glioma tumors enables them to adapt to challenging environments, leading to resistance to treatment. Therefore, to detect the driving factors and improve the prognosis of glioma, it is essential to have a comprehensive understanding of the genomic heterogeneity, stemness, and immune microenvironment of glioma.

  • Endometrial cancer (EC) is the sixth most common cancer in women globally, with about 20% of patients facing a poor prognosis despite advances in early-stage detection.
  • Research highlights the role of non-coding RNAs (like lncRNAs, microRNAs, and circRNAs) in the development and progression of EC, which could lead to new therapeutic targets.
  • The review discusses how these ncRNAs interact with the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, suggesting that understanding this relationship may improve treatment strategies for EC.

The parasitoid wasp Venturia canescens is an important biological control agent of stored products moth pests and serves as a model to study the function and evolution of domesticated endogenous viruses (DEVs). The DEVs discovered in V. canescens are known as virus-like particles (VcVLPs), which are produced using nudivirus-derived components and incorporate wasp-derived virulence proteins instead of packaged nucleic acids.
