Serum branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and aromatic amino acids (AAAs) are associated with obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We investigated the levels of these amino acids in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and examined their changes in response to an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). 110 women were enrolled and underwent a 75-g OGTT during their second trimester; 43 women were diagnosed with GDM and 67 women did not have GDM (non-GDM women).
