Background: Triglyceride (TG) and its related metabolic indices are recognized as important biomarker gauging cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to explore the association between multiple TG-derived metabolic indices including the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) and cardiovascular outcomes to identify valuable predictors for cardiovascular prognosis in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and coronary heart disease (CHD).

Methods: Data of 1034 patients with T2DM and CHD from China-Japan Friendship Hospital between January 2019 and March 2022 were collected and analyzed.

Androgen dependence is a key feature of prostate cancer, and androgen deprivation is effective in treating prostate cancer. However, the disease often worsens and develops into castration-resistant prostate cancer after short-term control. The current study aimed to explore the mechanism of the synergistic action of 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid (18β-GA) and enzalutamide (ENZ) against prostate cancer.

Background: With the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques, the use of laparoscopic D2 radical surgery for the treatment of locally advanced gastric cancer (GC) has gradually increased. However, the effect of this procedure on survival and prognosis remains controversial. This study evaluated the survival and prognosis of patients receiving laparoscopic D2 radical resection for the treatment of locally advanced GC to provide more reliable clinical evidence, guide clinical decision-making, optimize treatment strategies, and improve the survival rate and quality of life of patients.

The design and fabrication of highly efficient electrocatalysts are crucial for reducing energy consumption, improving hydrogen production rates, and prolonging the service life of alkaline electrolyzers. In this study, intermetallic 1-NiCo electrocatalysts were designed using DFT calculations and fabricated through a one-step solid-state reaction method. The DFT calculations indicated that 1-NiCo presented a lower H adsorption Gibbs free energy and a moderate HO dissociation barrier compared to the commonly used Ni catalyst and disordered NiCo alloy.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the main pathogen that causes hospitalization for acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRIs) in children. With the reopening of communities and schools, the resurgence of RSV in the COVID-19 post-pandemic era has become a major concern. To understand the circulation patterns and genotype variability of RSV in Tianjin before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, a total of 19,531 nasopharyngeal aspirate samples from hospitalized children in Tianjin from July 2017 to June 2022 were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • There is no agreed-upon timing for starting immunotherapy in patients with first-episode isolated optic neuritis linked to MOG-IgG (MOGAD), sparking the need for research on treatment timing.
  • A study involving 62 patients analyzed factors affecting visual recovery and relapse risk, finding that early intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) may improve final visual outcomes and that high baseline MOG-IgG serum titers correlate with higher relapse risk.
  • The research suggests initiating IVMP before visual acuity drops significantly and advises against using mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in patients with low MOG-IgG levels, while urging further studies for confirmation of these results.

Background And Objectives: Lexical tone presents challenges to cochlear implant (CI) users especially in noise conditions. Bimodal hearing utilizes residual acoustic hearing in the contralateral side and may offer benefits for tone recognition in noise. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate tone recognition in both steady-state noise and multi-talker babbles by the prelingually-deafened, Mandarin-speaking children with unilateral CIs or bimodal hearing.

Exploring the structure-performance relationship of high-voltage organic solar cells (OSCs) is significant for pushing material design and promoting photovoltaic performance. Herein, we chose a D-π-A type polymer composed of 4,8-bis(thiophene-2-yl)-benzo[1,2-:4,5-']dithiophene (BDT-T) and benzotriazole (BTA) units as the benchmark to investigate the effect of the fluorination number and position of the polymers on the device performance of the high-voltage OSCs, with a benzotriazole-based small molecule (BTA3) as the acceptor. , , and are the polymers with progressively increasing F atoms on the D units, while , , and are the polymers with further attachment of F atoms to the BTA units based on the above three polymers.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) commonly precedes ventricular remodeling, heart failure. Few dynamic molecular signatures have gained widespread acceptance in mainstream clinical testing despite the discovery of many potential candidates. These unmet needs with respect to biomarker and drug discovery of AMI necessitate a prioritization.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic and progressive disease with high mortality rates. It has been shown that pirfenidone (PFD) and nintedanib (Ofev) can slow down the decline in lung function of IPF patients, but their efficacy remains suboptimal. Some studies have suggested that the combination of PFD and Ofev may yield promising results.

An aging population is one of the main features of China's current population structure, and it is a key area that needs attention to achieve high-quality population development. Because of its unique geographical environment, economic conditions, and sociocultural background, the study of population aging in the karst region of southwest China is particularly important. However, there is a lack of research exploring the regional differentiation of population aging and its influencing factors in the karst regions of southwest China.

Familiarity with the chemical characteristics of regional groundwater can provide important guidance and reference for the development of regional groundwater exploitation. Jianghan Plain has been reported to have high groundwater total hardness (TH), resulting in the inability of local groundwater to be directly used as drinking water. In order to explore the causes of high TH, the paper analyzed the hydrochemical characteristics of shallow groundwater in Jianghan Plain combined with software of SPSS, JMP, and PHEEQC.

Intracavity optical metasurfaces with compact and flexible light manipulation capabilities, effectively enrich the implementation of miniaturized and user-friendly orbital angular momentum (OAM) laser sources. Here we demonstrate a wavelength-tunable figure-9 Yb-doped vortex fiber laser solely with standard non-polarization-maintaining single-mode fibers, which utilizes a gap-surface plasmon (GSP) metasurface as the intracavity mode regulation component to generate OAM beams, extending the avenues and related applications for cost-effective OAM laser sources. Gained by the broadband operation range of the metasurface, the figure-9 fiber laser could emit OAM light with center wavelength tunable from 1020 nm to 1060 nm and of high mode purity (about 90%).
