Obesity can change the immune microenvironment of adipose tissue and induce inflammation. This study is dedicated to exploring the internal mechanism by which different intensities of exercise reprogram the immune microenvironment of epididymal adipose tissue in nutritionally obese mice. C57BL/6J male obese mouse models were constructed by high-fat diet, which were respectively obese control group (OC), moderate-intensity continuous exercise group (HF-M), high-intensity continuous exercise group (HF-H), and high-intensity intermittent exercise group (HF-T).

Water conservancy projects affect the migration, suspension, and deposition of microplastic (MP). However, its impact on MP pollution of river ecosystem remains elusive. Herein, we investigated the MP characteristics and the influence of water conservancy projects on MPs in the Lhasa River Basin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess whether L-carnitine could help reduce mortality rates in critically ill patients with sepsis, but previous studies showed mixed results.
  • - Using data from various medical databases, researchers conducted a meta-analysis involving 356 patients across four trials, analyzing the effects of L-carnitine on mortality.
  • - The findings revealed that L-carnitine supplementation did not significantly affect 28-day or 12-month mortality rates in sepsis patients compared to a placebo.

Article Synopsis
  • Human parainfluenza viruses (HPIVs) are a major cause of respiratory infections in kids, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when other respiratory viruses' patterns changed due to non-pharmaceutical interventions.
  • A study analyzed nearly 19,339 respiratory samples from pediatric patients between 2021 and 2023, finding a total HPIV detection rate of 7.21%, with an increase in both test numbers and positive cases in 2023 compared to previous years.
  • The study noted a seasonal shift in HPIV prevalence, with most cases occurring in younger children, and highlighted the rise of co-infections with other pathogens, stressing the importance of ongoing monitoring for public health responses.

The biological activities of natural products (NPs) provided precious resources for the development of new drugs. Numerous studies have shown that statins exhibit cytotoxic potential, which is now an extensive focus of investigation. Herein, a remarkably efficient method for modification of statins using hexadehydro-Diels-Alder (HDDA) arynes has been described.

An unprecedented fused hexacyclic indolizine derivative generated by a single-pot reaction has been developed. This model overcomes the use of catalysts, inefficient atom economy, low yields, and limitations of lengthy steps. Density functional theory calculations reveal the reaction mechanism in which the oxygen molecule plays a crucial role in trapping the penultimate zwitterionic or biradical intermediate to generate the observed products.

Background: With the publication of a large number of clinical studies on antiplatelet therapy in recent years, it is still controversial which antiplatelet monotherapy should be continued after a period of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in the post percutaneous coronary intervention (post-PCI) population. We conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the efficacy and safety of inhibitors versus aspirin in the post-PCI population after completing DAPT.

Methods: We searched studies in electronic databases from January 1, 2015 to November 20, 2022.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, rhinovirus (RV) remained notable persistence, maintaining its presence while other seasonal respiratory viruses were largely suppressed by pandemic restrictions during national lockdowns. This research explores the epidemiological dynamics of RV infections among pediatric populations on Hainan Island, China, specifically focusing on the impact before and after the zero-COVID policy was lifted. From January 2021 to December 2023, 19 680 samples were collected from pediatric patients hospitalized with acute lower respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) at the Hainan Maternal and Child Health Hospital.

This study aims to develop a prognostic signature based on m6A-related lncRNAs for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Differential expression analysis and Pearson correlation analysis were used to identify m6A-related lncRNAs associated with patient outcomes in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Our approach led to the development of an m6A-related lncRNA risk score (MRLrisk), formulated using six identified lncRNAs: NFE4, AL008729.

Studies on the crosstalk between muscle and adipose tissue can provide beneficial help in elucidating the pathogenesis and treatment of obesity-related diseases [1]. In this data article, we performed RNA sequence analysis of mRNA isolated from epididymal adipose tissue and gastrocnemius muscle tissue in obese rats. Twenty-two samples were selected for gene expression analysis.

Objectives: To assess the efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in comparison to standard-of-care (SOC) anticoagulants in the management and prophylaxis of thromboembolic events in pediatric populations.

Methods: A comprehensive search of electronic databases was conducted to identify relevant studies published between January 1, 2015, and December 18, 2022. A meta-analysis was undertaken to evaluate the effect of DOACs on clinically significant endpoints, employing trial-level data with harmonized endpoint definitions.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease with high case mortality rates, which is caused by Dabie bandavirus (DBV), a novel pathogen also termed as SFTS virus (SFTSV). Currently, no specific therapeutic drugs or vaccines are available for SFTS. Myxovirus resistance protein A (MxA) has been shown to inhibit multiple viral pathogens; however, the role of MxA in DBV infection is unknown.

Background: Open radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) with bladder cuff excision is the standard treatment for upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). Traditional laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy (LSRNU) is not minimally invasive enough due to the complex surgical procedure. This study aims to discuss the clinical feasibility and oncological outcomes of pure transperitoneal LSRNU for UTUC.

Objectives: Heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF)  or  heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)  are associated with significant morbidity and mortality, as well as growing health and economic burden. Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are very promising for the outcome improvement of patients with HFpEF or HFmrEF. The meta-analysis was performed to investigate the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors in HFpEF or  HFmrEF, by pooling data from all clinically randomized controlled trials (RCTs) available to increase power to testify.
