The production of soy protein in the food industry is inextricably linked to the thermal sterilization process. To gain a deeper understanding of the changes in protein structure during this process, we compared the structural effects of typical thermal sterilization methods (pasteurization and ultra-high temperature sterilization) on β-conglycinin. Chemical characterization of the solutions showed that two thermal sterilization methods did not affect the primary structure and overall morphology of β-conglycinin.

Cerebrovascular segmentation from time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (TOF-MRA) and computed tomography angiography (CTA) is essential in providing supportive information for diagnosing and treatment planning of multiple intracranial vascular diseases. Different imaging modalities utilize distinct principles to visualize the cerebral vasculature, which leads to the limitations of expensive annotations and performance degradation while training and deploying deep learning models. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised domain adaptation framework CereTS to perform translation and segmentation of cross-modality unpaired cerebral angiography.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are recognized as a most promising energy storage technology for their high theoretical energy density, abundant sulfur resources, and environmental friendliness. Nonetheless, practical applications of Li-S batteries are currently hindered by obstacles such as the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs), sluggish reaction kinetics, and the formation of Li dendrites. Heterostructured electrocatalysts can achieve synergistic adsorption-catalysis for LiPSs by regulating the component composition to accelerate sulfur electrochemical reaction and guide the uniform deposition of Li.

Urbanization have been significantly reshaping the form of urban areas and natural landscapes, leading to complex urban morphologies. In 2012, the Local Climate Zone (LCZ) classification was proposed to address this issue and has since been widely adopted in urban climate studies globally. Despite its prevalence, literature on dynamic mapping of urban morphology remains sparse, making it difficult to delve into the study of urban renewal year by year.

Emerging evidence suggests that the sterile alpha-motif (SAM) and histidine-aspartate (HD) domain-containing protein 1 (SAMHD1) is implicated in various cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its precise role in tumor cells and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the expression patterns, prognostic values, and functional role of SAMHD1 in HCC progression.

Article Synopsis
  • * Long non-coding RNAs, particularly TP53TG1, are linked to abnormal metabolism in gliomas, with TP53TG1 being associated with poor patient outcomes and its suppression leading to reduced tumor cell growth and aggression.
  • * The study identifies a mechanism where TP53TG1 regulates glioma progression by interacting with miR-96-5p and the protein STK17B, suggesting that targeting methionine levels could be an effective treatment strategy for gliomas.

Article Synopsis
  • - Metabolic processes are crucial in cancer biology, particularly as cancer cells have a higher glucose metabolism rate, often using aerobic glycolysis to meet their growth needs and maintain redox balance.
  • - Although targeting glucose metabolism has led to cancer treatments, issues like poor drug stability, rapid clearance, and inadequate target site delivery limit their effectiveness.
  • - The review focuses on innovations in nanomedicine to enhance drug delivery by employing nanotechnology, which could improve treatment outcomes and tackle the resistance common in existing cancer therapies.

Automatic detection and recognition of wheel hub text, which can boost the efficiency and accuracy of product information recording, are undermined by the obscurity and orientation variability of text on wheel hubs. To address these issues, this paper constructs a wheel hub text dataset and proposes a wheel hub text detection and recognition model called HubNet. The dataset captured images on real industrial production line scenes, including 446 images, 934 word instances, and 2947 character instances.

Article Synopsis
  • Intramyocardial dissecting hematoma (IDH) is a rare but serious complication following myocardial infarction (MI), often leading to diagnostic challenges due to varying symptoms and limited awareness among healthcare providers.
  • A case involving a 73-year-old woman with extensive anterior MI revealed IDH that obstructed the right ventricular outflow tract, detected through repeated transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) monitoring.
  • The patient opted for conservative management over surgery, but ultimately passed away from cardiogenic shock, illustrating the critical need for careful evaluation of treatment options for IDH to optimize patient outcomes.

Background: The global spread of the plasmid-mediated mcr (mobilized colistin resistance) gene family presents a significant threat to the efficacy of colistin, a last-line defense against numerous Gram-negative pathogens. The mcr-9 is the second most prevalent variant after mcr-1.

Methods: A dataset of 698 mcr-9-positive isolates from 44 countries is compiled.

Background: Postoperative nausea and vomiting are common complications after surgery, and female patients are more likely to experience these adverse events. The goal of this study was to explore the relationship between the CHRM3 rs2165870 polymorphism and postoperative vomiting incidence in female patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery.

Methods: Two hundred female patients who underwent elective laparoscopic surgery with subsequent patient-controlled intravenous analgesia using dexmedetomidine and sufentanil were prospectively enrolled.

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common and deadly cancer, and long noncoding RNAs like HOTAIR may help diagnose it.
  • In a study, researchers measured serum HOTAIR levels in patients with hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and HCC, finding higher levels in HCC patients.
  • The results suggest that HOTAIR could be an effective diagnostic marker for HCC, especially when used alongside other clinical indicators like HBeAg and AFP, improving overall diagnostic accuracy.

Hydraulic fracturing technology is an effective way to develop tight sandstone reservoirs with low porosity and permeability. The tight sandstone reservoir is heterogeneous and the heterogeneity characteristics has an important influence on fracture propagation. To investigate hydraulic fracture performance in heterogeneous tight reservoir, the X-ray diffraction experiments are carried out, the Weibull distribution method and finite element method are applied to establish the uniaxial compression model and the hydraulic fracture propagation model of heterogeneous tight sandstone.

  • - Globally, cognitive impairment (CI) is a major issue for the elderly, with a lack of effective drug treatments, leading researchers to explore methyl donor nutrients (MDNs) like folic acid and vitamin B12 as possible cognitive enhancers.
  • - The study found a significant difference in the nutritional quality index of MDNs between older adults with dementia and those without, suggesting that higher intake of these nutrients correlates with better cognitive health.
  • - Analysis revealed that MDNs may improve cognitive function by influencing gut microbiota and pathways related to one-carbon metabolism and inflammation, highlighting the importance of diet in managing cognitive impairment.

Rationale: Quinolone antibiotics are extensively used clinically for human treatment and in agriculture. However, improper and excessive use can lead to the persistence of quinolone residues in animal tissues, potentially accumulating in the human body and posing health risks. Investigating the correlation between mass spectrometry cleavage patterns and molecular structural features enhances the analytical framework for detecting trace or unknown impurities in quinolones.
