This study aimed to assess the combined antibacterial effect of lectins and antibiotics on S. aureus ATCC 25923, multidrug-resistant E. coli ATCC 11303 and S.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA novel strategy to catalyze alkylation reactions through chalcogen bond interaction using a supramolecular structure is presented herein. Utilizing just 1.0 mol % of selenoxide-pillar[5]arene (P[5]SeO) as the catalyst we achieved efficient catalysis in the cyanation of benzyl bromide in water.

These macrocycles, among others, were tested as catalysts for alkylation reactions in aqueous solutions. Telluride-pillar[5]arene () showed the best performance, emulating the behavior of the methyltransferase enzyme cofactor -adenosyl-l-methionine.

The objective was to investigate the association between the school context and the occurrence of multiple partners among adolescents, considering individual variables (age, gender, Bolsa Família, LGB, early sexual initiation and use of alcohol or drugs in the last sex). Cross-sectional study with multilevel analysis carried out in 2018 with adolescent students from Olinda, Brazil. The variable (multiple partners) was collected based on the 'Youth Risk Behavior Survey' questionnaire.

Methods: Consecutively, outpatients attending at university hospital underwent clinical, laboratory, lifestyle, and eating behavior evaluations. Intuitive eating was assessed using the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2), and the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire-21 was adopted as a confirmatory tool for disordered eating behavior.
Purpose: Body composition analysis using computed tomography (CT) is proposed as a predictor of cancer mortality. An association between subcutaneous adipose tissue radiodensity (SATr) and cancer-specific mortality was established, while gender effects and equipment bias were estimated.
Methods: 7,475 CT studies were selected from 17 cohorts containing CT images of untreated cancer patients who underwent follow-up for a period of 2.
Objectives: Our goal was to evaluate gender representation among session leaders and abstract presenters at European cardio-thoracic surgical annual meetings.
Methods: We did a descriptive study of the gender distribution among session leaders and abstract presenters at 2 European cardio-thoracic international meetings from 2017 to 2022. Data from publicly available programmes were used to generate a list of session leaders and abstract presenters.
Background: To evaluate optimal settings of probe size, freezing time, and distance to the pleura that influence the size and quality of biopsy specimens during transbronchial lung cryobiopsies in ESPD.
Methods: We prospectively recruited 17 patients undergoing lung transplantation. We created a nonperfused ex vivo bronchoscopy setting to perform multiple cryobiopsies with different probe sizes (1.

This study evaluated the effect of reduced water intake on survival, apoptosis and immunoexpression of leptin in sheep preantral follicles, activation of primordial follicles, serum levels of leptin, estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4), and in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes antral follicles, as well evaluated the effects of leptin on in vitro culture of secondary follicles isolated these animals. Ewes (n = 32) were divided into four groups: water ad libitum (Control - 100%), 80%; 60% and 40% of ad libitum intake. Blood was collected to determine, leptin, E2 and P4, before and after experiment.

Aim: To assess and compare the developmental defects of the enamel (DDE) in children and adolescents with and without SCD.
Design: This was a cross-sectional, analytical, and comparative study of 210 children and adolescents aged 5-18 years, who visited the Hematology and Hemotherapy Hospital of Pernambuco.
Objective: To verify the association between victims of bullying and weapon possession among school adolescents.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out with 2,296 high school students aged 14-19 years. An instrument containing questions from the validated Youth Risk Behavior Survey questionnaire and the National School Health Survey was used.

Given this fact, we aim to analyze the relationship between moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), sleep time, and sedentary time, with cardiometabolic outcomes in adolescents.
Methods: Cross-sectional study, with 152 eutrophic and healthy adolescents.
Objectives: To evaluate the effects of leaf extract against cisplatin-induced ovarian toxicity in mice and involvement of p-PTEN and p-Akt proteins.
Materials And Methods: ethanolic leaf extract was analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Mice were pretreated once daily for 3 days as follows: (1) the control group was pretreated with oral administration (o.
This study characterized the expression of melatonin receptor type 1 (MT ) protein in sheep ovaries, evaluated melatonin effects on primordial follicle survival and development after in vitro culture of ovarian tissue and verified the possible involvement of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B/forkhead box O3a (PI3K/Akt/FOXO3a) pathway in the melatonin actions. Ovine ovarian fragments were cultured in α-modified minimum essential medium alone (α-MEM ) or supplemented with 100, 500, or 1000 pg/ml melatonin for 7 days. PI3K inhibition was performed through pretreatment of ovarian fragments with LY294002.

Here, we investigate paired soil and tree water extraction dynamics in an old-growth upland forest in central Amazonia during the 2018 dry season. Tree water use was assessed via radial patterns of sap flow in eight dominant canopy trees, each a different species with a range in diameter, height, and wood density.
