Fusion-welded austenitic stainless steel (ASS) was predominantly employed to manufacture dry storage canisters (DSCs) for the storage applications of spent nuclear fuel (SNF). However, the ASS weld joints are prone to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (CISCC), a critical safety issue in the nuclear industry. DSCs were exposed to a chloride-rich environment during storage, creating CISCC precursors.

Methods: The EU-GEI case-control study collected data from first episode psychosis patients and population controls across sites in Europe and Brazil between May 2010 and April 2015. Adjusted logistic regressions were applied to examine whether the odd of psychosis case status changed: (1) with time following cannabis cessation and (2) across different cannabis use groups.
Increasing attention to sustainability and cost-effectiveness in energy storage sector has catalyzed the rise of rechargeable Zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs). However, finding replacement for limited cycle-life Zn-anode is a major challenge. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS), an insertion-type 2D layered material, has shown promising characteristics as a ZIB anode.

Twenty elite soccer players were monitored with global navigation satellite system (GNSS) devices during six soccer matches from the Brazilian first division. After identifying the peak speed, individual speeds within 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after were collected at each 0.

Herein, a novel approach is presented to addressing this challenge by synthesizing hierarchical hollow SmPO nanospheres with open channels via a two-step hydrothermal treatment. The produced compound demonstrates remarkable 2e selectivity, exceeding 93% across a wide potential range of 0.

Recently, transition metal (TM)-based catalysts have been investigated for anodic alcohol oxidation, but success has been limited due to competition from the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) within the working regime. In this study, NiCo-based Prussian blue analog (PBA) was electrochemically activated at the anodic potential to produce a Co-Ni(O)OH active catalyst with a nanosheet-like architecture.

This study introduces a knowledge-based facile approach to analogous NiE (E = S, Se, Te) phases, originating from molecular β-diketiminato [NiE] complexes and their application for OER and organic oxidations. The recorded activity trends for both target reactions follow the order NiSe > NiS > NiTe.

This study examined the potential relationship between cannabis use and cognitive biases underlying social cognition and functioning in patients with first episode psychosis (FEP), their siblings, and controls.
Methods: We analyzed a sample of 543 participants with FEP, 203 siblings, and 1168 controls from the EU-GEI study using a correlational design.
A series of novel derivatives of Poliacetylene Glycosides (PAGs) were synthesized, and their antiproliferative and antiviral properties were evaluated. Starting from D-(+)-glucose pentaacetate as a precursor, a commercially available and low-cost starting material, three different strategies were attempted to synthesize the new PAGs, and the desired compounds were obtained in high overall yields after only three steps. The synthesized PAGs exhibited antitumoral activity in concentrations ranging from 68-878 μM and antiviral activities in concentrations ranging from 71-794 μM.

Previous research has revealed that mitochondria are an important target for photodynamic therapy (PDT), which might be employed as a therapeutic approach for several malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, we investigated both intrinsic toxicity and photodynamic effects of the photosensitizer (PS) aluminum chloride phthalocyanine (AlClPc) on mitochondrial functions. Several aspects of mitochondrial bioenergetics, structure, and oxidative state were investigated in the isolated mitochondria obtained from rat liver by differential centrifugation.

The use of modulated masking in cortical measures of hearing enables the obtainment of analysis parameters of the masking release and its impact on neural auditory processing. To investigate the behavior of cortical auditory evoked potentials (CAEPs) with modulated masking in the normal hearing population.

We studied data of 583 First Episode Psychosis (FEP) cases from the EU-GEI FEP case-control study, including Polygenic risk scores for major depressive disorder (MDD-PRS), bipolar disorder (BD-PRS) and schizophrenia (SZ-PRS); childhood adversity measured with the total score of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ); and positive, negative, depressive and manic psychopathological domains from a factor model of transdiagnostic dimensions. Genes and environment interactions were explored as a departure from a multiplicative effect of PRSs and total CTQ on each dimension.

We aimed to evaluate how S-benzyl-L-cysteine (SBC), an inhibitor of the sulfur assimilation pathway, affects maize plants' growth, photosynthesis, and leaf proteomic profile. Thus, maize plants were grown for 14 days in vermiculite supplemented with SBC.

Laser shock peening (LSP) is a formidable cold working surface treatment that provides high-energy precision to enhance the mechanical properties of materials. This paper delves into the intricacies of the LSP process, offering insights into its methodology and the simulation thereof through the finite element method. This review critically examines various points, such as laser energy, overlapping of shots, effect of LSP on residual stress, effect of LSP on grain refinement, and algorithms for simulation extrapolated from finite element analyses conducted by researchers, shedding light on the nuanced considerations integral to this technique.

Unfortunately, the medical curriculum is infamously known to burn out aspiring doctors, which may potentially lead to a decline in empathy among medical students. This research was planned to understand the evolution of empathic approaches among students across the curriculum using the Interpersonal reactivity index (IRI) as a benchmark at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI-MUB) and University of Sharjah (UoS).

The correct diagnosis is fundamental for the appropriate treatment to be employed in a particular pathology. The best treatment is not the one that solves only local problems, fragmenting the patient, and therefore, it is necessary to integrate the entire systemic condition of the individual before initiating any local treatment. This context inevitably requires dentistry to participate in a multidisciplinary approach, where the role of the dentist is expanded in concepts that encompass ethics, human dignity, and professional valorization.

In this study, we incorporated gadolinium (Gd) into a cobalt hydroxide precatalyst, achieving a deep reconstruction into cobalt oxyhydroxide (γ-CoOOH) while retaining the incorporated Gd during the activation process of the alkaline OER. The unconventional non-leaching Gd dopants endow γ-CoOOH with reduced crystallinity, increasing the exposure of electrolyte-accessible Co atoms and enhancing its bulk activity.
