Even in Brazil, an upper middle-income country with free comprehensive cleft care, delayed repair of orofacial clefts commonly occurs. This study aims to assess patient-perceived barriers to cleft care at a referral center in São Paulo.

Oxidative stability of burgers containing chia oil microparticles enriched with rosemary by green-extraction techniques.

In the first part of this study, the oxidative stability of chia oils enriched with rosemary by ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and by a conventional maceration extraction (CME) was evaluated. In the second part, chia oil enriched with rosemary by UAE or CME was microencapsulated and used to replace 50% fat in burgers. The oxidative and sensory quality of burgers were evaluated during 120 days of storage at -18 °C.

Application of ultrasound in chicken breast during chilling by immersion promotes a fast and uniform cooling.

The initial objective of the study was to evaluate different operation modes (sweep and normal) and frequencies (25 and 130 kHz) of ultrasound in pre-chilling of breast chicken cylinders (BCC) immersed in water at 10 °C during 10 min. The second objective was to study the effect of the immersion time (5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 min) using the best operation mode and frequency obtained in the pre-chilling of the BCC in water at 10 °C. Pre-chilling was evaluated in both stages by infrared thermography, and the percentages of water absorption were determined in the second stage.

An innovative use of thermal infrared enthalpimetry (TIE) is proposed for the determination of alcoholic content of red and white wines. Notwithstanding the presence of ethanol in beverages, absolute ethanol was added directly to wines, and the temperature rise caused by the heat of dilution was monitored using an infrared camera. Analytical signals were obtained in only 10 s for four samples simultaneously, and a calibration curve was constructed with hydroalcoholic reference solutions.

The larval stage of the stingless bee Scaptotrigona depilis must consume a specific brood cell fungus in order to continue development. Here we show that this fungus is a member of the genus Zygosaccharomyces and provides essential steroid precursors to the developing bee. Insect pupation requires ecdysteroid hormones, and as insects cannot synthesize sterols de novo, they must obtain steroids in their diet.

Background: The association between gynecological diagnoses and their distribution in the health sectors provides benefits in the field of women's health promotion and in medical and interdisciplinary education, along with rationalization according to level of care complexity.
